CavsRcute
I am so furious. : I have had pets insured with PETSECURE for over 12 years. Have just received a cheque from a recent claim and the maximum PETSECURE wil pay for a consultation is $10.00. Her specialist for the first 2 consultations was $163.00 per visit at a total of $326. Out of this i received a cheque for $20.00 and not the supposed 80% . Apparently this changed at the renewal in September. I wish she didn't have so many pre existing conditions or I would try elsewhere. So beware.....DO NOT BUY PETSECURE INSURANCE!!!
Winterpaws
Did they send you a new document at renewal informing you of the changes? You can make a complaint to the Insurance Ombudsman depending on the circs - no charge to make one The Insurer pays
Purpley
You should get a new PDS if the details of the insurance has changed. If you did not read it, then it is your problem. If they did not make you aware, then ring the ombudsman for sure.

Thanks for the info. Edited January 25, 2010 by CavsRcute
Winterpaws
Have a look at your docs. I am flat stick at work today but I quickly scanned their PDS and could not see anything limiting consultations. You need to find your documentation to work out where you stand
Danois
How much have you claimed this policy year or for this particular illness in the years the dog has had it? I checked the PDS too and it may be you have reached the benefit limits? That or it was for an excluded condition? Have you tried calling them to ask why? loulouB
I am insured with petsecure for one of my dogs, but I am thinking about cancelling it. So far, i have been able to claim absolutely NOTHING, and feel like i am wasting my money paying the monthly premiums. My dog had a urinary tract infection a few months ago, and they wouldnt let me claim anything back on the treatment, because she had a urinary tract infection once before, a year or so ago, before i had insurance, so they counted it as a pre-existing condition! That is ridiculous. I have a golden retriever, and i was worried about hereditary joint diseases, so when she was a puppy, i asked the vet to examine her joints, and the vet thought one of the hips felt like it might possibly have a problem, but that they could only know for sure with an xray. Anyway, she has never had any problems with her joints and is totally fine. But i'm pretty sure that now if my dog is unlucky enough to develop any joint problems, petsecure will never cover me for any kind of joint condition, because they will claim it may have been a pre-existing condition, because the vet noted down that she 'may' have a problem with one of her hips (even though it turned out to be fine). I haven't even taken out any insurance for my 2nd dog, because i am feeling really disillusioned with it all.

I have spoken to them and they said anyone who has a policy with them, will only be getting back $10.00 per consultation, no matter what it is for or how much it was. I'm going off now to read through the policy document

all that glitters
Why the heck would someone sign up when insurance will only give you $10 back? Something strange is going on
CavsRcute
oh, that's a shame I'vw found them to be pretty good....have always paid my claims out. Look carefully next time you come up for renewal. This is when they change the inclusions, benefits etc. I have never had any problem with the before this and that's why I was so angry I'm going to look into further. I also noticed that I have been overcharged by $372.00 at the specialists. Have had the shingles, so haven't been concentrating but I can see that I will have to look at everything very carefully
all that glitters
http://www.petsecure.com.au/upload/documen...08351284281.pdf I don't see anything saying consults get $10 back either on that pdf?
Winterpaws
That's in complete contradiction to everything they advertise? I'd be taking it up with the insurance ombudsman
luckypup
I have my dog and 2 cats insured with Petsecure, and i would change in an instant, but unfortunately my dog has a back problem and this would be considered a pre existing condition so no one would insure him for anything related to this issue. even tho he hasnt had anything major with his condition, its still an issue with changing insurance companies, which, to me, is very very frustrating, as i personally think that Petsecure is waaay too expensive for the amount you get back! If i ever get another pet, yes i would insure, but definitely not with Petsecure!

CavsRcute
This is the first time I have claimed for this illness. I have a $50.00 excess for each new illness and you only pay once per illness. The renewal came up in September and the was the first visit since then. It doesn't matter if it is the first visit or10th visit you will only get $10.00 back per consultation
