Night 3, I'm still on the couch! He didn't want to settle so I patted him for a bit while he was in his crate, and now I've shut the door and he's quiet hehe. Hope tonight goes well!

Cazwah I'm back in the bedroom! haha! Last night was the first night.. he did good! Had a cry for less than a minute then settled down. He had 3 toilet trips and each time settled straight down afterwards. A million times better than he was that first night!

I'm still at the stage though where i expect him to go crazy? I basically hold my breath until i can hear him sleeping! lol

Nadz - you and me both, I keep listening listening listening for little noises. Humphrey is getting so much better. Although yesterday he did have an accident in his crate (number 2's!!!) but I think it happened so fast he didn't have time to alert me as it was very (sorry for the description) runny and yucky. Poor little poppet :(

When we go out for 'loo' he just comes straight back in now and settles, getting much much better everyday. It's hard work though

Well done!! Dont worry about the oopsie pups will be pups and their tummy well get the best of them one time or another. I have had only the one accident to date under the same circumstances :D .

My border collie pup is going well. She isn't thrilled to be in the crate/pen in the room by herself but settles down very quickly. I've had one of the older dogs babysitting her at night and not a squeak out of her.

One of the things I do is never, never go to the crate whilst they are crying. Even if it is time for them to come out, wait for a lull in crying.

Ever tried it? I have. Didn't make any difference either way.

Actually, that's not quite true. It didn't make any difference with Kivi, but it trained Erik to bark when he needed to go to the toilet. :( It was very useful. I was working from home and he was hanging out inside in a puppy pen. I got to work in the study without worrying about puppy and he learnt to tell me when he needed to wee. He has the run of the house at night, these days, and he still wakes us up with a soft bark if he needs to pee during the night.

I quite clearly said that I did it.

Looks like i'll be starting the same situation tonight. We have had our lad for 3 days/2 nights now, and the past two (nights) he slept inside, next to me (he was on the floor though), but tonight is the night .... he gets his own room.
