Gay
Hi guys/gals, long time lurker but now to request some help! Our male, 17mo very boysterous Rotty has finally been cat scanned/Xrayed with the result that his ongoing lameness of many months (rads done by a previous vet revealed no cause - to him) is a displaced femur head caused most likely by a slip. The edges are now rough & cause him extreme getting up so we've decided to go with the recommendation of total replacement, due to his youth. Thank heavens for credit cards as the loan is maxed out :p We're in Ballarat & the 1st quote obtained is $5k, is this pretty much a ball park figure or ar prices quite variable. Surgical expertise won't be sacrificed in order to save, however. I've barely had time to come to terms with the loss of our old girl, my soul mate, 2 yrs ago & now this. They sure are sent to try our hearts strings . Many thanks in advance for all suggestions.
Cosmolo
We were quoted 3 thousand or 3,500 i think per hip from a very well respected surgeon
BigDaz
I remember a few threads a while ago talking about Stem Cell treatment for dogs with HD, here is one thread I found, but I am not sure how realstic it is or if it is a bit of a scam. It must be heart breaking, I hope it never happens to my two, but it is probably not common for Staffy's. One has already had OCD of the elbow, that was bad enough. Gay
Many thanks to both of you, your quote sounds far more 'manageable' Cosmolo I'l ring our local vet (huge practice) tomorrow & see what transpires. Y/day was terrible for all of us due to his being moved into positions he'd normally avoid, under the anaesthetic & it had happened previously post Xrays. He looked like he'd rather be dead despite 15mg Melixicam & naturally we felt almost as bad just watching his pain, helplessly. He's much improved this a.m. but we all no how stoic they are! I'd thought any replies would be alerted via email hence my late thanks! Gay
