Lara19 Posted January 20, 2010 Share Posted January 20, 2010 We will be setting up an inside crate for our new pup, and wondering on the opinions here of covering the crate at night for him when it is bed time, or is it not really necessary? Daydreamer Posted January 20, 2010 Share Posted January 20, 2010 We have had our puppy now almost 6wks and at first we did cover her crate at night, its supposed to make them feel more secure - we also leave a dim light on . I dont cover the front of the crate just the top and sides ...... also if she went in there during the day for a nap i didn't cover it then - my idea being she'd realise it gets covered when its a big sleep ;) . We havent covered her crate for the last few weeks because its been so hot, some nights we leave a fan on for her, do you think I'm going slightly overboard with my mothering, reading this post back I think maybe I am ;) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bundyburger Posted January 21, 2010 Share Posted January 21, 2010 I cover 3 out of 4 sides of Bundy's crate at night. Helps when we want to sleep in I can get him up for a pee, and put him back in the crate. if I don't cover it he'll whinge, but as soon as it's covered even in daylight he will sleep. Evolving Posted January 22, 2010 Share Posted January 22, 2010 I cover the crate for Echo and it settles her down to go the sleep when put in there. At first she did not have it covered and would play up a little barking (ear spitting barking that can not be ignored easily). She may give a whinge now but only for a second.
