I have been thinking when Henry arrives home in a weeks time, whether I should enrol him in puppy or dog obedience as soon as possible.

Is it safe to take Henry to classes at 8 weeks of age? I can't seem to remember how old Fraser was when we first took him to classes and to be socialised around other dogs.

Should there also be a certain amount of time before Henry is allowed out in the general public on a small walk or to meet other dogs either here at home or out in the suburbs?

I know some puppy classes will let puppy enrol as long as they have their first shot. Charlie started puppy school at 10 week and yet to have his second shot. They will recommend you to wait till the pup had their second shots because taking them to parks or public place to socialise your pup though.

As a pup, you can always carry him around to shopping and car rides or whatnot, so your pup is familiar with traffic sounds, people coming over to pat it and gush over it.

Most puppy pre schools take puppies from 8-16 weeks old. They will all be in the same boat as far as vaccinations go which is why they say it's not a problem. I didn't get Tilba until she was nearly 12 w/o & she started pp at 12 weeks after she'd had her 1st 2 jabs. I still carried her everywhere until after she'd had her 3rd jab to be sure. I still took her lots of places though for continued socialisation.

I am not going to say it is 'safe' as the pup still isn't fully vaccinated. It is a gamble that you take. If you don't take them at that age then they miss out on an important socialization window. Make sure that you pick a pre puppy school that has good disinfectant policies. You don't want to be out side on grass for instance. The floor needs to have been cleaned, people need to be taking their shoes off and washing hands. Carry your pup into the class too.
