Itching?

I have noticed over the last few days Jet has been scratching alot. I have checked him for fleas and I couldn't find any and I also checked out his skin and there was no visable irritation. So I am trying to figure out what has been making him itch. I gave him a bath on Monday and I used a dog flea shampoo but I have used it before and I never noticed in the past him scratching this much. There are no new plants in the backyard.

He also has been a bit off his dry kibble. He was fine when I first brought this new bag but now he will hardly touch it and will only eat his chicken necks so this made me think it may be a diet thing. He was on Purina Pro Plan previously and this is his first bag Purina Supercoat. He has been on this pack since before christmas though.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ask yourself what's changed in Jet's diet/environment. The obvious answer is his kibble. It takes a few weeks for dietary changes to impact on skin/hair condition.

Supercoat is generally regarded as a pretty ordinary kibble. I'd start by changing that. If the itching continues, then further exploration of sources and/or a trip to the vet may be needed.

I too would be looking at the ingredients list of the Supercoat which you are feeding.

From their website, adult = "Meat and meat by-products (from chicken and/or beef), wholegrain cereals (wheat and/or sorghum".

For starters many dogs cannot tolerate wheat- they can be celiac, the same as humans. Some dogs are also intolerant of beef as Loraine has posted.

Thanks PM I will change back to pro plan and hopefully it will help.

Thank you I will change it. When he has had meaty bones in the past I have noticed he has had the runs.
