An Incident At The Park Yesterday

He's my hero  And Luuka's too  He won't even let her in the clam pool without harassing her, should have seen him coralling her at the river, hilarious. Lucky she just ignores him

And as for the name, we had a few picked out, we wanted a name that was 'majestic' without being wanky and over the top, something simple but proud, and we had a few choices - Atlas, Apollo, a few others, but when I met him I knew Atlas was the right name!

I am still a bit messed up over it, when I'm home alone and Atlas barks at something I jump out of my skin, haha.

Particularly when no one is physically hurt, I think a lot of us don't realise how confronting, scary, invasive, frightening something like this can be.

Don't down play it FranCQ and expect yourself to just shrug it off with: oh well, nothing happened. It must have been terrifying even with your hero in full protection mode.

Thanks MM you are right  It was really scary but I am more careful now when OH is out

In other news (pardon the pun) - MY LETTER GOT PRINTED TODAY!!!! :D :D :D :D

And the paper only managed to make one mistake, they printed that I said "my dog and me" but, sorry, I would never say that! :)

Congratulations :p .

(.... "my dog and me" would be correct in some instances, eg something something for my dog and me. LOL )

I cannot thank and praise the volunteers at Duthie Park Dog Obedience enough for all the help they have given my dog and I to become a great team. I highly recommend them to anyone in town with a new puppy or even an older dog whose behaviour is becoming out of hand. They are patient, friendly and knowledgeable and, best of all, they use positive reinforcement techniques and do not condone “punishment”. There is absolutely no excuse for unruly dog behaviour in this town with these wonderful people giving up their time for such a small fee.

MM what about in that instance? I did think about that little weirdo rule but I have never understood it properly!

I'm not MM, but I think that should be 'my dog and me'. You wouldn't say 'the help they have given I', you'd say 'the help they have given me'. Same usage when you add the dog. :p

Cool! So they did me a favour! I take back my grumpiness ;) That is one grammar rule that has always eluded me! But that actually makes sense now!

Yes, "my dog and me" is correct in that instance - LOL.

I won't go into the details of subjective case and objective case ;) ;) , but a quick way to work out whether you use "I" or "me" is to take away the other part of the phrase, in this case "my dog and".

You wouldn't say: I cannot thank and praise the volunteers at Duthie Park Dog Obedience enough for all the help they have given I.....

The sentence can be constructed differently to show where "My dog and I" is correct: My dog and I have become a great team, thanks to the volunteers at Duthie Park Dog Obedience enough for all the help they have given.

In the first sentence, objective case; in the second sentence, subjective case.

Here endeth the lesson and congratulations for getting published. :p :)

I opened my car door and motioned for he dog to jump in, which he nearly did. That changed their tune and they said "oh that one yeah sorry he is ours". And I said "right, well how about you keep it on a f**king leash like you're meant to, because it just followed me and my dogs and made our walk pretty unpleasant, before jumping on top of my bull terrier which he didn't really appreciate". And they told me to "f**k off and mind my own business" which is what I was attempting to do anyway. I got in my car and called the ranger, making sure they could see I was on the phone.

:cheer:

You told them to keep their dog on a f**king leash ?? What did you expect their response back to you would be ?? a sincere, genuine apology.

I am sorry, I missed the part where I appeared surprised at their response or expected something different? I was angry and rude to them, they were angry and rude back, no big deal.

ncarter English Bull Terrier is the full breed name but most people just say Bull Terrier

Correct name is Bull Terrier but I often say "English" Bull Terrier when asked what breed Pele is. Joe Public tends to think bull terrier is a name that covers all the bull breeds :)

I would have called Atlas an "English Bull Terrier" if I had sent the article in to the paper :)

Well, I just had some really cool news  I phoned the lady who coordinates the dog obedience club to see if PP would be cancelled tonight due to the torrential rain we're having and she said she'd been trying so hard to find my number because she wanted to tell me how much they loved my letter. It was brought up as an agenda item at a meeting recently and she said some members got quite emotional while reading it. I was quite surprised about that but she said that they were actually really disappointed in the original article in the paper, they were misquoted, misrepresented and the photo was really disappointing as the paper had come and taken HEAPS of photos of the dogs doing agility, obedience, being patted and loved and everyone happy but all the paper used on the article was the vice-president looking serious with her dog sitting next to her on the ground. They said that they felt my letter corrected the parts of the article they were unhappy with. So stoked, really has made my day!

That's fantastic. You've inspired me to get moving. I'm just about to contact the lady who runs the Therapy Dogs group for Dogs Victoria. She was briefly interviewed on ABC Radio National this morning. And was she briiliant, saying all the things that should be getting to the public about purebred dogs. Knocked the socks off the interviewer by telling how there are Rotties.....& a huge Mastiff named Clinton....in their team which goes to hospitals & nursing homes. Her explanation about how these purebred dogs from good stock are then socialised with great care to be the best of companion pets....was great.

So she'll be getting feedback of the highest praise from me.
