MAD
Hey guys! I've only skimmed through the last few pages so the messages are going to be a little short. BF - OMG Zoe is just sooooooo cute! Nic - This is the first time I've owned a BC so I'm not too sure what to expect. So far so good. She knows how to sit, stay, hi 5 and drop. She just loves to sit out the front (we don't let her out the back as we let some big snakes go out there a while before we got her, but we still see them around!). She just loves to sit on the front porch/grass and watch the world go by. We live in a cul-de-sac (or however you spell it) so it's safe for her to stay out the front. She never goes past the car in the drive way. Matt - Diesel is just GORGEOUS! Poppy - I've never met your new pup, but I just love her so much just from seeing her pics! Awww Jodi - How exciting for you! Sorry to say, but the next 2 months are going to d r a g o u t! Lauren - Your new pup is so cute! I just want to squeeze her! HI EVERYONE ELSE! jakeyjangels
What a day..... I went into town, parked the car, water is pouring from under the front....thought crap the bottom hose on the radiator has gone. I called OH who happened to be at work 150km away, tried ringing a mechanic but no-one was there. I ended up joining the RAA (I have been meaning to do that for a while) so $180 later they called a repairer out for me. I had to wait nearly an hour in the car, but he finely made it, luckily I had bought us all a drink. The guy had to remove the thermostat, and replace the radiator cap. The radiator needs flushing out, but at least I was able to get it fixed so I could drive it around for a while. This then made us late for everything. I had to run around doing shopping and buying my grandson a 5th Birthday present for this month. Then we grabbed lunch, and got home long enough to breathe then off to the vet.....same distance from town, just the opposite direction. The vet checked to see if Zoe had a microchip, nope, so while I fed her treats the vet put a microchip in, vaccinated her and wormed her without her batting an eyelid She thinks Zoe either has worms or its an upset stomach probably from the food. So she said it should be fine and has given her a Royal Canine Puppy food, she said it is better suited to a more sensitive stomach, and should settle down soon. To thank the vet Zoe crapped on her floor Anyway Zoe's temp is fine, she doesn't have Luxating Platella's (I think thats what they call it) thats for the Insurance company, she weighs 2.8kg but was hard as Zoe wouldn't stay still and she needs one more booster shot in a year then she can have 3 yearly vaccinations from then on. So YAH Niques ~ I thought it was supposed to improve with time, but nope it seems to go up and down. I need to bath Zoe too, I have done her ears and face folds, she doesn't mind that, in fact she sits there and makes noises like she enjoys it sooo much I'll let you know how the bath goes.... :p Lauren ~ God its hard isn't it? I wouldn't switch the TV off, I'd do everything you normally do, make as much noise as you like, the dogs will eventually get used to it. I suffer from hayfever and I sneeze a lot, when Zoe is sleeping, and I sneeze, she wakes up watches me then lays back down and goes back to sleep. As for the crate, I don't know what to do.....I am so exhausted....I am going to bed late and waking up at 5-5:30am and not sleeping much in between. I left Zoe while I went into town for the first time....I wish I knew if you can hear her outside the house..... BF Hi BF Glad Zoe is ok. Have you thought of maybe trying some raw fresh food like chicken necks if you can source them where you are? Just a thought. :D Bet you will sleep tonight after your big day. Fingers crossed your baby will too. Hi again BF: Do you know if there a difference between the 1 yearly vaccination & the 3 yearly one other than the price? Thanks from Jill
Bluefairy
Hi, Jakeyjangles ~ The only difference in the vaccinations is the time gap between. They are the same vaccinations as the yearly ones. The Veterinary Assoc. found that dogs given yearly vaccinations were actually still fully covered by the vaccine when they became due for the next one, they tested it out and the vaccine actually lasts about 3 years, sometimes longer. They have recommended that animals be given this vaccination 3 yearly instead of yearly. But a lot of vets wont do it....this may be a distrust it works this way or its a money making thing.....who knows. Some people after their dog has had 4-5 years of vaccination refuse to revaccinate, they believe the vaccine works a life time....not sure on that part. So from now on pups get only 2 shots, one at 6 weeks and one at 10-12 weeks. Then another a year later and then 3 yearly after this. I am not sure about boarding kennels, but as this 3 yearly vaccination becomes more popular they will have to change their rules to suit it. Maybe getting a letter from the vet to say the dog is covered for 3 years might help. Thank you everyone for the comments Lauren ~ Your little girl is gorgeous Jodi ~ I have pm'd you MAD ~ Thanks, I think she is cute too but I'm biased :p That is great your puppy is so easy to train. Zoe is, but needs to be food trained.....meaning she is stubborn and will only do what you want if you have treats otherwise forget it :p I slept last night..... I put her to bed, she cried for about 5-10 minutes then quiet.....I was trying to read a book but I kept drifting off so I thought I'd give sleep a go, I heard her waking up at 5am.....but after an hour my daughter got up to take her out. I then got to sleep in till 8am, when the phone rang....boy did I need that. So now my batteries are charged....kinda, and I feel I can tackle another day :D Zoe is loving the new food from the vet, so fingers crossed it helps her over time. She left some food in her bowl yesterday so I put the dry food in her kong, it only took her seconds to realise she had to make the kong spin to get the food to fall out, she had a ball for the next hour trying to get the food out of the kong and from under things when the food got knocked about. But she ate all her meal in the end We have a yearly folk fair in town this weekend. I was going to take Zoe to it (carried around of course) but now it seems it will be a washout, as its supposed to be raining all weekend....bummer. Poor Zoe misses out on the socialisation things I was hoping to take her to. I'll have to organise other things for her. Well I better go to the shops, I have to get the finishing touches for our BBQ this weekend. Nothing special just a lazy day for us :p BF

Our breeder recommended Jangels have a third vac at between 14 & 16 weeks which I assured her we would, so I will discuss the 3 year thing then. We don't use boarding kennels so that won't effect us. ~Shepherd~
Myzchev ~ I'm sorry you went through all this crap. Its horrible all the thoughts and worries that go through your mind and all the bleeding "What if's????" I agree with you BB should have asked you and not listened to others and their opinions. BB has been reading this thread, so yes she will see it. I have seen her in here a few times. Thank you though for coming in and stating the facts for us and for her.BF I never started rumours about Myzchev and her dogs. Another breeder over East told me incorrect information and a friend who has Belgians cleared this up for me. I never said anything about this on DOL, never! While we're all at it .. anyone else want to have a go at me? Feel free, I'm already feeling very low so going a little more low can't hurt. I'm feeling pretty darn useless and I'm sorry for all the shit I've stirred up. I know I'm very much hated around here, so I'm going to leave Dol. Good luck to all and feel free to kick dirt at me if you ever see me in the streets. By the sounds of it, I deserve it. Enough with the sympathy seeking, own your mistake and leave it at that, then the others who are bagging you will come undone in their own time. May I add that there are some excellent Belgian Breeders (including yours BB) in the East who don't gossip. Dont throw them in the same basket as the person who caused trouble. Your Breeder is an excellent example of a good ethical breeder who is always open to communication and DOES NOT bad mouth other breeders or listen to bullshit about prospective puppy buyers. She is having a bad enough time at the moment due to the sudden death of her 'Buddy' without being implicated in a gossip ring due to poor wording such as "I never started rumours about Myzchev and her dogs. Another breeder over East told me incorrect information" For those who think BB is a fruitloop and wouldnt sell her a pup, thats bullshit. BB stayed here for over a week with little Ivy. I wont say any more than BB has publicly said about herself, that being, she has confidence and communication issues with new people as MANY 'doggy obsessed' people do. They more often than not make excellent dog owners, but perhaps not the best communicators with people. Glad its sorting itself out. We all live and learn, but some take a hell of a lot longer than others.
Niques
What a day, BF! Glad to hear Zoe's taking well to her new food. The three yearly vaccination sounds interesting - we'll have to bring it up with our vet when he goes for his last shot. MAD, that's so sweet that she loves to watch the world go by! James gets taken out on a leash to toilet in the front yard if he's been asleep downstairs and we normally end up sitting in the grass taking everything in for a good 15 minutes afterwards We're in a cul-de-sac as well and he loves getting acquainted with the neighbours if they walk past. Or car-watching - he's a very intense car-watcher. Thankfully he doesn't chase them - he knows that he has to plonk his butt down if a car comes past. Lauren, she's so cute! She looks so, so soft! Wish us luck! James normally sleeps in his pen at night and tonight I'm going to give leaving it unlocked a go. I'm right next to the garage so can normally hear him when he wakes up anyway. My only worry is that he'll realised he's not secured and therefore won't make any noise when he needs to go out. The aim is to eventually move him out of the garage and into the rumpus room next to me (or in the bedroom if he's good), so we'll see how we go. It's been quite muggy here today and yesterday - the heat has taken it out of him and he's been exceedingly snoozy. Not to mention he got tired out at puppy preschool last night (and showed me up after bragging about him - he knows more commands and has them down better than the rest of the puppies, but was so distracted and eager to play he only performed them once or twice before completely ignoring me! ) and finally slept past 6am today! Albeit, only 10 minutes past, but anything past 6 is to be taken as a victory
nicolatu
Lauren - your baby is so cute. Need to give her more hugs! Magstar - your baby will come soon. Be more patient. BF - hope Zoe will recover soon. Oreo is the same as Zoe. He only reacts if there is something in for him(food or game). MAD - yeah I agree that BC is very smart and they learn their commands fast. But he only reacts when he feels like. Have to teach him to listen all the time. Yesterday Oreo ate some raw beef for the first time and he had a bit of diarrhoea. Guess he likes to eat chicken only. I bet she's sick of me talking rubbish to her all the time It is all sorted and I'm glad [in a weird way] it happened as I needed to learn the lesson that was taught! Two weeks and an hour until my boy arrives Crate has arrived and I was oh-so tempted to sit in but the cat beat me to it hehe. She had a ball playing in it. Bluefairy
Niques ~ They are like kids, they always show you up or make you proud when out in public Nic ~ From what I can make out beef seems to have a stronger protein or something so maybe wait until he is a little older and try introducing it again. Chicken is bland and great for upset stomachs. BB ~ I am so glad things are now sorted out or kind of. ;) when I put up my crate for Zoe, my cat also went into it and slept, she must of thought we bought it for her..... Wow not long now....lots of pictures remember. Dogawne ~ Thank you you won't be disappointed with your choice of breed. Why don't you come over to the Pug Thread in the Sub Breed forum, and say hello. I was there for a while asking heaps of questions before I got Zoe. There are breeders and owners in the group and they are so friendly. Well another night of short crying until she went quiet......can I hope its a sign of things to come I some how don't think so :D I just wish she'd change her waking up from 5am to 6am At the moment my youngest daughter needs retraining its her day to take Zoe out when she needs to go toilet, but either Kim is missing the cues or Zoe isn't giving any....and Zoe has left upteen surprises in the laundry :D it seems like every time you go past the laundry there's another job to be done :D poor Kim, she'll get it soon and at least its not all through the house, Zoe is keeping mainly to the laundry which is where the back door is. Well it has turned out to be a nice day so we might take Zoe with us to the Folk Fair after lunch. Lots of people, noises, strange and wonderful sights. Tonight is the fireworks, we live about 2-3km away from it, we can see it but the noise isn't as loud. So it will be great to take Zoe out into the backyard and introduce her to that as well. Lets hope all the socialisation helps Zoe...not that she needs much, as she is the friendliest and non afraid dog I have ever met. BF
Dogawne
BlueFairy- I'll try tp get my way over there shortly ty. Are you going to take your girl to shows? Bluefairy
Dogawne ~ It was a surprise when I got her she was on Mains Register (which means I can show her), but I don't think I will, as we live in country SA and getting to many of the shows is an organisational nightmare. I'm glad you feel this is the place for you, and yes you get heaps of support here so any questions you may have, puppy or pug wise just ask Well I didn't end up taking Zoe to the Fair, but she did get to hear the fireworks and she was sleeping at the time, she woke up and looked around when the loudest one went off....that even scared to death the girls. But Zoe just went straight back to sleep....I still can't get over how different Zoe is to our last pup Annie, Annie was afraid of everything and Zoe just takes everything in her stride. I know I have mentioned this before, but I am just so amazed at how different 2 pups can be from different breeds and different temperaments....amazing. Another quick cry time last night and again an early morning wake up....OH got up to her this morning so I got a sleep in Zoe was sleeping on the lounge at the side of Kim last night when the cat came over and slept the other side. So they are now sleeping on the same thing, so they are getting closer. Plus Zoe is so good now with sitting and waiting until I release her for her meals. She doesn't rush the bowl now, she waits at a distance, I put her in the sit mode and gently hold her and she will hold very still until I say 'Go' then she starts to eat. I haven't as yet done any other training with her besides this and getting her to 'wait' when you go out the door, so she doesn't follow. Once she has mastered these I'll try something else BF
Lauren Golden
Hi everyone, Just a little Maggie update! It's our 4th day of having her and as each day comes she is getting so much better! The crate has been completely ruled out for the moment. She had her first day of puppy school yesterday and she was the shyest one of the bunch. While all the other puppies were playing and wrestling she just hid behind our legs and even fell asleep at one point! The trainer thought that it was too soon to crate her after the very scary experience of being on the plane in a crate for so long. She is sleeping on a dog bed next to us and that seems to be working OK. We take her out for a wee about 11.30 and then she will wake up about 6.00, take her out for another wee, and then bring her back in so her parents can have more of a sleep in. We're on holidays so she'll sleep again until about 9.00 which is great. She's got an obsession with weeing and pooing on door mats... when we take her out she will move away from the garden and find the nearest foor mat to do her buisness on. We keep moving the doormats into the garden for her to get the idea, but then she will just go back over to where the door mat was and go there!!! I wonder if the breeder kept her indoors and used those puppy pads to train her, and maybe that's why she likes the door mats?? She hates being on the lead and will just sit there and refuse to move! The trainer at puppy school recommended that we put her on the lead, and stand in the garden so that she HAS to do her business there - but she just kept lying down - even when we picked her up again and again, she just lay down sadly. BUT as soon as we take her off the lead, that's when she quickly runs to the door mat and goes there?! She's had some separation anxiety issues, and will follow us everywhere. The trainer gave us some tips about what to do, (when trying to leave her alone outside without her crying the whole time) which is working SLOWLY! But otherwise she is just adorable! Hope everyone's pups are doing well!!
Bluefairy
Lauren ~ Just an idea to get Maggie used to the lead. Place the lead on her collar and let her walk around inside with it for a few days, taking it off and one all day. Then try tying something to it with a little weight, like a toy for her to drag around. When she gets used to being on the lead, and moving around with some resistance to it, she might then be ready for you to hold on to the lead. This is an idea from Cesar Milan (the Dog Whisperer) and I reckon its very reasonable to do. I love this guy and what he does. BF
nicolatu
Short update on Oreo. He is lovely but biting still continues. His bite is getting softer so I guess he is still learning. But he goes for my girlfriend whenever he sees her. Haha trying to get him not to by not playing with him. His UTI has cleared so that is all good. We trained him these few days on lead. He performs so well. We get him to move forward by luring with food and he gets rewarded for it. Lauren - you can try luring with food. But sometimes he just walks in front of me so I have to watch out and not kick him. Trying to get him to walk on my left. I walk him on the drive way so he could not catch other dog's diseases. Now he needs less food lure and he will walk nicely but he still gets distracted very easily by things that move(eg car and flying leaves). He sometimes know how to "leave" so training him more will get there. We bring him everywhere so he could have more socialization. BF - Oreo is not scared of anything as well. He tried going for a Golden Retriever tail in puppy school. Lol. Luckily I managed not to let him take a bite. Nic
Lauren Golden
Thanks BF great advice! Nic - at puppy pre school they did a big session on biting. They say you should yelp like a hurt dog or do a high pitch "yikes" and recoil back if your puppy bites too hard. Wait a few seconds and she should lick you to say sorry. It worked really well with some of the puppies at pre school. Just keep that at and hopefully that will help.
