I knew I shouldn't stalk this thread... makes me want to get a pup now!!

smashtank have you picked a vet yet?

Nope... I haven't picked a vet yet. I have been recommended by a Frenchie owner Vet HQ in Double Bay but that will cost Double Bay dollars... Also another Frenchie owner goes to Darlo Vet on Crown St.

I might call then today/tomorrow.

I don't really know what to say/do though aside from- "Hi. I'm getting a puppy on Saturday. What do I do besides bring him in in three weeks for his vaccination?"

We're currently waiting for a very beautiful english mastiff puppy! I keep looking at photos of her! She doesnt get here until late next month, so we're in prep mode at the moment.

We've got puppy school all booked in and lots of playdates with the nice vaccinated dogs we know (however, if there is anyone with a puppy in Ellenbrook who'd be up for a playdate too...?) A pile library books on raising puppies as its been a while and a mountain of extra strong puppy toys, bowls and bedding...although our son is pretty adamant that she'll be sleeping on his bottom bunk.

All we need is the puppy!!!

My friend's have a Frenchie who is two years old and fully vaccinated. Will it be okay for me to take my boy around to their apartment for a Frenchie play date or would you wait until after the 12 week vaccination before he meets other older dogs?

Welcome KyKy! Your pup is one day older than mine! :D

Cassie and Smash, you're both so close! To think I would have joined you too. I bet you won't sleep tonight  I'm so looking forward to the pictures!

I'm going to visit Louis today, I couldn't stay home knowing he's unwell, and when he should've been coming home in the morning! I can't resume my countdown until the penicillin does its job and we know exactly when he's getting his vacs, but I think it'll only be an extra 3 days (Monday), so possibly 4 sleeps instead of 1. Touch wood. Fingers crossed. Toes crossed too!

Ohhh I have such a soft spot for purebred Mastiffs! They are a breed that is historically behind all of my favourite breeds :) I laugh how many dogs get mid-labelled as a "Mastiff cross" when they look nothing like the true giants :) All the best with your pup and I look forward to the photos! When do you get her?

Hopefully you can bring Louis home on Monday :) better to be safe than sorry though as I'm sure you would agree. Although the extra wait must be killing you! I was looking forward to getting my puppy on the same day as someone else :)

Yeah, I am thinking the same. The more well mannered dogs we can meet and befriend the better.

Anyone up for playdates? ;)

Absolutely agree with "better safe than sorry". When I called yesterday I was given the impression that he was already on the mend, that's why I think Monday or Tuesday will be the day.

I was also looking forward to getting my pup at the same time as you and Smash. But hey, look at it this way: at least we won't be stealing each other's spotlight!

Same here! Shame there's no DOLers from the ACT getting a puppy right now :(

I just called Darlo Vet. I booked Tank in for his 12 week vac (which he'll get at 11 weeks and 5 days). She said that he shouldn't really need to come in before then unless I think something isn't right. :)

true true... not much you can do now other than go in and have a chat to them if they're not busy (that might be rare!)

Just wanted to say I have a colleague who uses rose bay and says they're excellent. I used to live on crown st but haven't been to darlo vet, sorry. I did go to the one on cleveland st (at the end of crown) once, they were fine but we moved from the area without needing to visit again so don't really have an appraisal.

Okay thanks - I might look into Rose Bay one.

I guess a vaccination is a good way to suss out if I have a good feel for the vet - it isn't super serious (touch wood things stay that way!)

Lollipup, that's a great link, thanks!

You're most welcome. I give it to my clients when discussing socialisation

I also just had a long chat with a vet who is a new friend of mine the other day and found out heaps about how vaccines work with timing and she was very interested in the socialisation side of things too.
