Jodie - never too early! We have 10 days to go and we are madly working to complete our landscaping (new house), pick up puppy pens and dog proof the yard.

I started preparing when the pups were 4 weeks (she'll come home at 12 wks) and I wish I had a bit more time. Mostly because it takes a while to find a good/cheap deal on used play pens, crates, baby safety gates etc on Gumtree/freecycle/eBay.

Panzer - what breed of pup will you be bringing home? Does it seem like the days are dragging by? We have 10 days to go and it seems to be dragging!

To be honest, i'd never actually heard of crate training until i started reading this forum  we've had dogs in the past, but have never had an issue with the dog staying behind or knowing where its bed was. So thats another decision!!

I never crate trained Akira. We had more issues getting her to settle at night than we did with Halo, who was crate trained from the start. Akira also had more accidents at night than Halo did. Akira is now crate trained (she loves her bed) and it's so useful because we're heading off camping in April for Easter and we don't have to worry about where they're both going to sleep because they will sleep in their crates.

Speaking of Halo, here's a rather bad video (it was dark) of her chasing a ball. You can kind of see how big she's getting (she'll be four months old on Friday).

I'm having a Paptacular Papillon flown over from the NT :D I am so excited I cannot begin to tell you. The days seem to be flying incredibly fast, which is scaring me a bit, since I've never had a puppy before and I'm very nervous about it. Lucky for me my lovely and caring partner is going to be helping, because I think the pup would end up scarred for life if it were just me

I LOVE Japanese Spitzes, you're a lucky duck!

WA - we had a four month old lab come into work yesterday, oh wow he was BIG! I can't believe how fast they grow! :o

Sid was crate trained when he come to us. It's a wonderful thing, especially with two dogs. His crate is his safe place and because his breeder used one, he adjusted really well to being in one here - no crying overnight like I expected  Both of mine sleep crated in the loungeroom.

I know, they do grow fast, don't they? Halo hasn't grown anywhere near as fast as Akira (at four months old she was the size of a lab the same age and was getting her adult coat, and everyone was telling us she'd be huge, but then she suddenly stopped growing at six months and is now on the small end of the scale) but I watched a video of Halo the day after we got her today and she's definitely grown a lot. :o

Aww - paps are so cute! I am also a first time dog owner and am feeling neurotic about everything. I've even taking to listening to some dog behavious and training podcasts (Ian Dunbar's iWoof series downloaded through iTunes) - I'm worried about being a terrible owner and I don't want Ziva getting into any bad habits that I might cause :cheer:

Our next door neighbour has a lab - somehow ended up freakishly large compared to his parents! About 10-15cm taller than any other lab I've ever seen - their owners are expecting a baby - they'll be able to use him as a pony!

Ooh, I've had dogs before, don't get me wrong! My angel passed away in December (I had her for two years ) and the love of my life has been ... well, he's living with my ex and I'm not happy about the arrangement and unfortunately his name and details are on the microchip so there's nothing I can do. Haha, I'm reading Dunbar at the moment! Le boy let me borrow all his puppy books, bless his heart.

I actually saw my first IRL Pap today... SO CUTE OMFG I AM SO EXCITED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chase is beautiful :) How is he settling in?

E x

I think we need updated puppy from all those that have got puppies recently (just to distract me tillI get mine  )

Any excuse to keep talking about my puppy!

She is 13 weeks now. So far she has been to herding and to 2 show training classes. Im so proud, she picks up everything so quickly and is just so adaptable and shows no anxiety where ever I take her.

She has learnt High 5's, shake hands, drop, sit, speak on command, and the latest is leave. So funny, she cant bear to look at the treat while I say 'leave', so she turns her back to it. Watching the reality of what 'OK' meant was sooooo cute.. (really mum, can I?!)

But, right now she is limping along on 3 legs! :) got home from work to find a little bit of blood on one of her hind leg nails, right near the bed and a tiny nick in the pad. Will get it x ray'd at work tomorrow, it doesnt feel serious, but she is being a princess about it. God forbid mum tries to cushion it with a bandage!!!

She was playing with a full size deerhound last night... so damn cute. The deerhound laid down to be at her height and ended up wearing a ACD toupe

Awww, sounds so clever Jakemon! Hope the poor little one's foot feels better soon!

Miss Halo has taken to sleeping with her sister whenever Akira lies down. They really adore each other.

Chase has settled in really well, he sleeps through from about 11-7am when the kids wake him up. He cries a bit at night when we put him in the crate but he settles after 10 or so minutes although some nights it feels like heaps longer! Last night we left the radio on low for him near the crate and OH and I were having a chuckle as he settled really quickly listening to Love Song Dedications!

The sun is back and shining today so am hoping to get some more photos of him outside playing on the grass!

I'm getting closer to having puppy supplies organised - house collar, training collar and lead all sorted :birthday: Picked up a few more toys as well (good idea someone had about rotating toys each day rather than having them all out at once) All that's left is bedding for her puppy crate and dry food - her breeder has her on Purina One (which I think is at the supermarket) so I'll get the smallest bag of that and then try her out on Black Hawk Puppy.

Oh - and I need to move 3 tonnes of pebbles to surround my veggie beds so that there's no exposed dirt for digging!

Wait until she gets older and cheekier. Chase simply moves the pebbles and tries to chew on them and then has a good ol' dig!

Get her a shell calm and filled it with sand... teach her to dig in there (make it more appealing to her by hiding toys and treats in the sand) :provoke:

You asked for it! Here is little Archie at 9 weeks.

5545846865_aaf5e778d5.jpg

He is 10 weeks old tomorrow! He starts puppy class next weekend. Our friend has also got a Rotti pup the same age as Archie and we plan for them to become best friends. :bolt:

Crate training has gone really well for Archie. He sleeps there at night and at the moment he is only getting up once or twice a night to go out to the toilet.

He knows a good solid sit and drop. We are starting on stay, and also a bit of leash training. He hates the leash and tries to play tug of war. He is currently going through his biting stage. It upsetted me at first, but now I know that it is common for pup.

But most importantly he is lots of fun!! He is very sweet and loves his belly rubs. He is so clever and he loves meeting all my family friends. Can't wait for him to meet other pups.
