Didn't know that about Danes! All the ones I've met didn't seem to drool heaps!

Exercise isn't an issue, I'm getting fitter slowly (I train at Taekwondo) and if I'm too lazy to walk, I'm not too lazy to go to a park or field with a ball, or to a friend house so there can be some play with other dogs.

Great Danes are on the list for their low exercise requirements :)

Well if everything else fits then I'm sticking to my recommendation for the Lab :) Mine was happy to go to the park and play fetch until he tired instead of a walk. Bonus if you are feeling sick at all they are more than happy to snuggle on the couch and miss a walking day smile.gif

I've found herding breeds are less likely to be worn out just by fetch. For all the breeds you've mentioned don't forget to wear them out mentally too.

In regards to showing, find out what 'type' you like yourself too, and find some breeders that have similar views.

Other low exercise dogs oddly, are Greyhounds and Whippets. Biggest couch potatoes ever!

I would vote for a curly coated retriever !

Can't do Grayhounds... I have a cat and I've been told they do not mix at all :(

I've heard they're fine if they grow up together!

I have a friend whos cat had kittens and the grey tried to adopt them. Haha. He was a male and such a softy. There's some really switched on Grey people here. You should see Stan (look up stansmum) if you want to be won over ;)

If you want a breed that won't give you the middle finger when something more interesting comes round the corner I would probably stay away from the spitz family tree, I'm sure with some dedicated training time you can control that habit but it would be allot more work than the other suggestions noted.

I agree with lisa on the lab, didn't think about that, if you like a cuddle buddy my uncles old lab was like that, he used to love to snuggle up to you while watching a movie :)

maybe do what I did and go see a show, bulla has one on every few weeks, you get to see allot of breeds there and get to talk to allot of peeps about the breeds, and if you want to show as well it would be good for you to see what its all about and like.

Thats where I met my fav breed and I saw allot that day, probably over 40 diff breeds.

I can lend a plug to my own little bean too. He's a flat coated retriever, sporty and out there, happy to try anything but also loves a snuggle. Not drooly, but can be very licky, but at least it's dry?

He's lovely, and they're not too common?

Also loves everyone. Every single person, animal or plant is his best pal. Even one of our cats who dislikes him obviously gets taken toys. There's always a pile of 'offerings' under his cat tree. Very retriever-y.

If you wanna meet him, he'd be all about that, sure Jack would volunteer Koda too!

So cute! My first corgi would do this! lol

I'd steer away from Curly Coated Retrievers. My friend had one and unless it got a two hour walk a day plus extra playtime/training it was mental. It would also rip the fence pailing off the fence to go next door and play with the neighbours dogs. They can also be quite aloof.

GAP rehouse cat friendly greyhounds regularly, it would just be a matter of finding a breeder whose greyhounds have been socialised with cats too. :)

I think if OP is looking to show she'd be having one from fairly young, so I imagine a grey would be right if it's grown up with cat and trained to leave it?

And ideally not left too unsupervised outdoors, I know that can be a temptation.

I would think so, but even better if the breeder has cats also and they've been with them from day dot. It shouldn't be to much of an issue with a pup though. :)

I would be more than happy to, koda takes a second or two to weigh up a visitor but warms up FAST when he knows your all friendly :D
