I'm so glad I'm not dealing with cats as well!

Our biggest concern is cables. We are very technology-minded. We have every device you can think of, and are used to being able to charge each one on a whim, in every room of the house (even the bathroom!) So we are basically drowning in cables. Hoping someone at Bunnings can advise us. quote]

As recommended on DOL I bought 2 Bunnings wire compost pens for Panda when he was a puppy. He slept in it in his bed/crate until he was a year old. I used one inside & put 2 together for out in the yard.

2 pens joined together

One pen for inside

He was kept in his pen while inside if we couldn't watch him. When I was sure he wasn't going to get into things I took the pen away & now he sleeps in his open crate at night & whenever he likes through the day. I never puppy proofed the house for him & he was pretty good not touching stuff.

I just had a look on the Bunnings website...$28.80!!! Loads cheaper than some puppy pens. How sturdy is it?

Pretty sturdy. I joined it together with cable ties because the springs that come with it roll down to the bottom. I use dog lead clips for the open side. For a time I was using them to keep the dogs down the back yard but my Border Collie kept jumping over it. They've gone up slightly, I paid about $25.

Can highly recommend the Bunnings Composit Panels for puppies - I have about 8 sets and have used them for litters over the last couple of years for creating temporary pens inside or outside..... very sturdy and I can extend the pen size as the puppies get bigger. Outside I just place a couple of star pickets in the ground to give a few strong points, they cope very well with aussies till about 12 weeks of age. also good for blocking off areas you don't want the pup to go.

Very simple to pack up and put away until next time i need them.

Another  for the compost bins. We use them all the time to block off hallways and parts of the yard when necessary. They're perfect cos you can make the area as big or as small as you want depending on how many panels you use. Definitely get cable ties though, I've found the springs they come with fairly useless.

Last day of work today then I'm off for 3.5 weeks and I pick up Nacho on Monday. :D :D :D :D

My little boy is home! Daisy has been way too excited for the last hour and plays a bit rough. He is so sleepy but is lying quietly in his crate chewing a pig ear. Things have settled down now for the most part. I will post some pictures later once I get them off the camera. It's been a long day already.

Lhok - Any ideas for covering / keeping them out of reach? I just don't want him chewing them

We cable tied our cables up and shoved them down a flexible plastic pipe. I forgot to mention the latter part sorry :(

Daisy - Pictures NAOWWW!!! So excited :D

Look - Thanks, that's what I figured I'd be told at Bunnings, but I'm clueless at anything DIY. I think I'll do both (hiding cables and keeping him in pen unless supervised). Can't hurt to be extra safe! After all, it's my first puppy and don't really know what to expect.

So annoying when the item you really want can only be found at a pet store that sells animals. :(

Off to eBay I think, it's a lesson not to leave puppy purchases to the weekend before pickup.

What are you trying to buy moosepup?

Soft crate. I know there are a few out there but I really liked this one. A few more shops to scope out tomorrow but otherwise I'll just get one online. I've got a travel carrier style crate I can use in the meantime.

Quick question for those of you in here: When you first got/get your pup, did you or are you planning to take it straight to the vet in the first day or so for a check up? I've often heard this advice given to new owners, to have a vet check right away so if anything is "wrong" I guess you can advise the breeder immediately, but to be honest I've never done this with a new pup, I've always held off on the vet until their next vaccination was due. Thoughts?

I've never done it. Not unless the pup was sick. But then I wouldn't accept a sick pup. However, this is the first time I've not physically picked up my puppy.

I was reading a socialization schedule that suggested taking your puppy to te vets for a checkup so that its first experience didn't involve trauma. But still involved contact, and the vet experience so that they associate the vet trip in a positive light.

I'm lucky in that regard, I work in a clinic and I will be taking my puppy to work with me. I'm a bit excited about all the people she is going to meet. :)
