PuppyLove01
Minxy How long have you been looking for a puppy? I didnt realize they where so hard to find in Qld. I hope you get one at the end of the year. Ive looked at afew breeds but ended up picking the collie because it had the most i wanted in a doggy. I love the look of the tri colour so beautiful. minxy
Hmm it has been since the beginning of the year pretty much. Though I was initially looking at Huskies. There are only two or three registered Akita breeders in Qld that I have found. (2 of the 4/5 listed on Dogzonline aren't breeders at all). I have done a LOT of googling to find any other contacts. I am waiting back from a response from a couple that are ready to mate their bitch now, otherwise I have my name down for a breeder sending his bitch over to Qld to mate. But his pups don't come with papers which I would really, really prefer. There are a lot more options if we got one from interstate, but my OH and I can't really afford the time/money to fly over to pick a pup out etc, and neither of us want to buy a dog that we haven't met. We'll see how things go.
PuppyLove01
Thats the problem with getting an interstate pup your pretty much relying on pictures and thats it. There are afew breeders of collies in qld but wheather or not they are planning litters i dont know. I can get an interstate pup but id rather stick to getting one in brisbane where i can meet the parents and see the puppy for myself.
TsarsMum
i wish that was an option for me LOL. there is only 2 breeders in wa for samoyeds and the price is nearly double to what i pay in the east (hence going east)
PuppyLove01
Dogluva101 wow only 2 breeders in your state! At least your getting your pup very soon, must put pics up Samoyed puppies are so cute!
wuffles
We bought our puppy from interstate, so we did not meet her or her parents beforehand, but she is everything we could have hoped for. The breeder was great, gave us lots of updates and told us what her personality was like. Just thought I would throw that out there for those looking at breeders
Dju
Hello everyone!! I'm new here I'm so glad there's a thread used to express to-be owners excitement about getting their puppies because my own is three months away and already I'm the most excited thing ever! The family has started to roll their eyes at my enthusiasm since the puppy hasn't even been born yet and I'm jumping off the walls--this is my first dog ever. I'm getting a Swedish Vallhund boy from AUSVARG (I found them through this website, they're new breeders, I think? I'm not sure), and it's really my dream dog! At first I wanted something large and cuddly like a German Shepherd or Husky, but a couple of online "breed matchers" have come up with a Vallhund as a result and I've been doing so much reading on them and they seem like the perfect dog for me. A big dog in a little dog's body! These are the parents: Aussie and Skye, who is a month's pregnant and about to go in for an ultrasound! Cross your fingers there's a little boy in there for meeeee

I have actually heard a lot of good stories from people who have bought from interstate. Will consider it if we don't have any luck with this breeder. I would much prefer to buy from someone who has the papers

I myself am getting a doggie from one state over (or down, technically) and I hope it'll be a good experience, haha. The breed is very special to me and the parents' descriptions of temperaments and so on is just perfect, so hopefully everything goes well with the puppy we'll get from the breeder! minxy
Where abouts were you planning on going to puppy school djubre? Are you North or South Brisbane?
Dju
I'm south-east Brisbane, and I think there's a little local puppy school near my old highschool somewhere; I still haven't made any firm decisions though, never having had a dog before I'm not sure where to look and I'm being overwhelmed by information from the internet! minxy
I've done a little bit of research into it and so far I'm leaning toward Urban Dog Training - they have a couple of locations over our way. They seem to be highly recommended on here, and were the cheapest I've found so far too. And have free puppy play groups
Dju
The closest we have is some "Positive Response" training school--no school lists prices where I can see though so it's a bother lol! How much do they usually cost--is it a per class thing or per term or semester--I'm so uninformed! Transportation is also a bit of a problem for me too, I don't have a car yet!! Eek, yea that certainly makes things a bit harder! Puppy training with PR is $160 for 4 weeks (or $150 if you pay 3 days before the course starts). I have only seen ones that charge for the full course - I've seen these vary between 4-6 weeks. I think the most expensive one I've found is actually the RSPCA! They usually seem to be around the $140-150 mark though that I have seen so far.
Dju
$40 an hour! They must make a killing from puppy preschool! I know how important puppy training is though, so I guess there's no avoiding it. I just need to find a better job now so I can afford to treat 'King' Hugo like the royalty he'll be I looked further into Urban Dog Training and they have a course really quite close to my place! Only problem is that I'd have to force my dad into driving me there, I don't think he'll like the sound of that at all lol
minxy
Haha, well he only has to do it about 4/5 times Just thought I'd ask you about this since you are getting a puppy about the same time I should be if things go to plan, and you're not too far from me. I'm trying to find DOLers in Bris to socialise my pup with, preferably dogs that will be around the same sort of size!
Dju
I just realised that there was only one location for Urban Dog Training and that's the location that's closest to me. Thanks for pointing out that website, looks like I'll be bothering my dad into driving me and the dog there after all! I'm won over by the pink website, hahaha. You're looking for an Akita, aren't you? Beautiful dogs, was on my top ten list, but they're much bigger dogs than Valls, aren't they?? It would be great to meet fellow DOLers in puppy preschool though!
