Fiona, I assume you have the XLarge crate for your GSPs? How much room is in there, is it really roomy? I'm wondering what size I need for my LH Wei, I expect she'll only be a couple of cm taller than my goldens, but my goldens have plenty of room in a 42in metal crate, just thinking if I could get away with a 36in. Willow is tiny at the moment.

Yup we have 2 of the XL crates and it fits my big boy just fine with enough room to be comfy (my older boy is 34kgs & 68cm at the shoulder so a big GSP .... your girl should end up smaller than he is though so the XL should be a fine size .... in fact when we first got the crate I crawled inside it and could fit myself quite well (and I'm not a small person) - I wouldn't want to sleep in there but the XL is recommended for a Golden and the dimensions are 102 (L) x 69 (w) x 69 (h) - why don't you ask the seller what she thinks? I'm sure she'll be able to tell you which size would be best

I posted earlier that I don't believe in buying different sized crates for a growing dog - I just divide off the bigger crate until they need that space - saves money ..... I have my 10 week old puppy in an XL crate at the moment - he's only 7.5kg and we just divided his crate in halves for him at this time .....

We have been waiting 4 weeks for our German Shepherd puppy and the day has finally come. We pick him up today from the airport! :o Have only seen one pic of him when he was 5 weeks old, so cant wait to meet him in person. We had our own litter end of last year and was sorry to see them all go, but couldn't keep a boy out of the litter cos we couldn't put it back to my girl. And if for some reason we can't mate from him, he will still be the best in the obedience classes!

congrats how vert exciting

Thanks Ellz, that's good to know. I'm watching a couple on ebay, but it looks as though they're going to surpass $100 soon, especially as most of them don't do flat rate Aussie shipping. It looks like we will be going with the DD crates, then.

Another question for you..I'm not very good with measurements (I get so muddled having grown up in the US and then moving to Aus and having to learn the metric system lol). Does the 36" crate fit into a car easily? We only have a small car (a Getz), so I'm wondering if we will need an alternative for car travel.

My crate that size didn't fit super easily into my X-trail boot so doubt you will get one into a Getz.

What do you use instead? I've seen the seat belt harnesses, and that seems like a good idea to me. In the past I've always preferred having my dogs ride with me in the car, rather than in a crate, although in the past I was slightly naive and problably not as safety consious as I should have been!

FD26 ~ In the car I am using a seat belt attachment to a harness. The crate would take up too much room in the back of the station wagon so I'll never take it with us anywhere. I have just bought a gorgeous pet blanket for the back seat, it is waterproof, if lovely and so soft, and has velcro slits for the seat belts, plus elasticated corners to hold it in place on the seat. This is all I will be using. My pup will be secured between my two daughters in the back seat :o

 Gumnut and Prince Charming

Yeah I hate the waiting too. I'm only waiting for 2 more things done to the house, replacement of an air con and fences to be put up, so we can go further on getting our dog. I just wish the air con guy would hurry up and ring so we can organise him to come out and give us a quote.

Oh has suggested we can put our names down on the breeders list as soon as the aircon is nearly finished  so we might be getting our pup sooner than we think.....I hope.

2 days to go.

:)

Woohoo, pictures soon! :D

Still about 3 and a half weeks here. My OH goes away next weekend, and then once he gets back it's my son's birthday and then only a few days left...so hopefully it will zoom by! Although, with recent break ins here, I wish I had a big mean looking dog already  but he said no when I asked if we could at least foster a rotty :o denied.
