Stitch
A silly question I suppose but how do all you guys that have to get large litters microchipped now, know accurately which pup belongs to which microchip sticker after they have been microchipped when all the pups look the same?? So far I have only had to microchip small litters so it was easy but I have a large litter that will have to be microchipped in a few weeks and I am wondering how I am going to be able to sort them afterwards without mismatching the pup with the sticker???? I don't normally go in for neck bands as I have so far managed to differentiate pups by putting nailpolish on different coat sections. I don't think that is going to be the best method to use though. Look forward to your suggestions.

t-time
Either get a microchip reader or else use ribbons/puppy id tags for the ones you're not sure about Just get a felt pen of the same colour to id the microchip numbers on the papers of each puppy. ellz
My current litter of 9 Staffords were colour-coded at birth. They have a crocheted collar in their individual colour and all of their paperwork corresponds with this colour. Each puppy has been known by this colour as their "name" for all identification since they were born 8.5 weeks ago. They are also identified by these colours on my website and in all photographs. When they were microchipped, I had already made up a Puppy Record Sheet for each and as each puppy was chipped, one of the spare stickers was put onto the sheet corresponding with their colour. When vaccinated, I also had written vet checks done and each puppy had a Vet Check sheet which I had put another of their spare chipping stickers onto. As the vaccinations were put onto the vet computer, their microchip numbers were entered at the same time creating a permanent record.
WreckitWhippet
Fill in all of the paperwork for the chips prior to the vet or the implanter doing them. Write your colour code or nail polish location on the form at the top or the bottom. Hand the puppies one at a time to the vet or chipper, double checking that you indeed have the right puppy to match the forms you;ve filled in. Make sure they put the stickers on the forms before you hand over the next pup. Then all you need to do is make sure that you keep up with the identification until they leave home. Or invest in a reader

ellz
With 9 puppies, all either black brindle or brindle, it was a case of be organised or go bonkers!!!

Look forward to your suggestions. I chipped a litter of labradors with the colour collar system, next morning only two of 16 pups still had their collars on. another lady had black poodles. she had it down pretty pat i thought for someone without a scanner. she clipped the furtherst left toenail on the left front paw for the first pup and nail polished that nail white. second toenail for the next pup, third toenail for the third pup n fouth for the fourth pup. then began on the right front paw for the fifth pup n so on. she had eight pups and they were all like peas in a pod. she checked the nail polish daily and said she had no problems doing it that way. me, SCANNER. far more easy and accurate in any circumstances. well unless the battery goes flat
ellz
I can safely state that my crocheted coloured puppy collars are absolutely bitch and puppy-proof! Nobody is rougher on each other (and their collars) than Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies. My collars have stayed put and have only been taken off by myself (with scissors) to be immediately replaced with the next size. Not everybody can afford, or has access to a reader. SwaY
My pups were colour coded at birth with velcro collars. The mirco chip paperwork has the colour of the collar on it. I also have a mirco chip scanner just in case. $220 http://www.whelpingsupplies.com.au/index.p...p;productId=
