Sandra777
Repo vets will often quote the figure of around 30%-40% of natural matings "fail", when of course trying to sell the services of AI which some will claim are up to 85%-95% successful. Assuming repo vets have got their numbers right, then a mating is only successful a little over 1/2 the time. Personally this isn't my experience, but over all breeders, who knows? Aziah
Repo vets will often quote the figure of around 30%-40% of natural matings "fail", when of course trying to sell the services of AI which some will claim are up to 85%-95% successful.Assuming repo vets have got their numbers right, then a mating is only successful a little over 1/2 the time. Personally this isn't my experience, but over all breeders, who knows? ...and I think we can assume that half or more of those 'fails' are due to poor timing rather than actual reproduction issues. The high success rate of AI is most likely due to with correct timing via progesterone testing (which, in most cases, comes part and parcel with AI). Nic oh lah
Why are you asking all these breeding questions (as well as all the other questions) - you going into the puppy farm business? no i just like to have all my facts about everything and all the info i can get It's just that some of the questions could lead people to think that, like How Young can a dog be used for breeding, how much are vacc's, with/without papers, failed matings etc. Kudos to you if you're just interested - definately check out the search function, there are so many great threads in here i've found by having a hunt around using search. We're all dog lovers and probably all cautious about peoples intentions - wasn't accusing you. It's great that you're curious - the better equipped you are, the better owner you'll be! That's a pretty big assumption to make. Not an assumption at all, a question. Unlike many on this forum, I try not to make assumptions. The op has a lot of threads asking about breeding. Seems a lot of questions about issues which are not relevant to the purchase and keeping of a pet puppy, and I would like to know why someone who is purchasing a pet is asking as many or more questions about breeding as about pet keeping! If you don't like that, tough. If you presumed it was an assumption, you should check your comprehension levels. The op has answered the question, anyhow.
