Odin-Genie
I would never ever agree to such terms however close I might be to a breeder. For me, my dogs are part of my family and I would not relinquish their responsibility or wellbeing to anyone else unless I had absolute decision making powers. Caesars mum
advice as a pet owner = walk away I agree this is not for the pet owner
SmoothieGirl
I'm sure there are arrangements such as these that can and do work, however I would bring it back to what YOU want from your relationship with your pet, not what the breeder wants. Personally it wouldn't work for me. I intend to trial Bronte and we train almost daily away from the home. I wouldn't want to have to confine her during her seasons or have to risk missing trials/training as a result of a season. Sounds like the kids would find it tough for their best buddy to go on 'holiday' during her pregnancy/whelp, let alone that they couldn't take her out for walks and play at the park with her when she is in season, for the risk of uncontrolled entire dogs. Also, I do find a difference between desexed bitches and dogs, so if you want a bitch, stick to your guns. Its a decision for the next 10-15 years, so it needs to be one you are comfortable with. I hope you find your little black princess soon. Edit - Typo Edited January 18, 2010 by SmoothieGirl

WreckitWhippet
I think it's safe to say that Westozmike is looking for his new family member with no strings attached.
Clyde
I can't imagine sending my baby girl away to mate/whelp, we would miss each other so much. The breeder would pay me to take her back
voyagersaus
That just sounds so totally nuts and controlling to me! And so this happens a lot?? Run, not walk away from this I reckon! That is so bizarre and vaguely horrifying to use your pet, that you responsibly want to sterilize, in this fashion.

However as a breeder, I'd not place a bitch out on breeding terms to a pet home...
voyagersaus
Oh wow, my first nasty snipe. Didn't judge at all dearie.. only an opinion... I have never bred dogs, only bought them from breeders.
Ventris
It would be easy for me, I would tell the breader that I want a pet not a breading bitch so call me when they have a female for a pet home. If you want a pet then only take a pet from them or find a different breader. good luck
