A Parvo Question

Well, you could buy a solution to dip everyones (including pets) feet into on entering your yard , but even that cannot prevent parvo comming onto your property as wildlife can also carry it.

Parvo can live dormant in the ground for yrs and yrs and still kill any dog that's not been vax'd. So if you are renting, be very aware of this.

The best way to prevent parvo is to vaccinate.

ultra bad news is it also is windbourne as well.

remember my vet saying, when its a westerly from mt druit (one of the biggest populations of unvaccinated dogs in the metro area) he can have em piling in with 9 or more in a day.

It is worth finding out from a local vet how prevalent it is in your area because you could be worrying unnneccesarily. My vet said he hadn't seen a case locally in years but knew of other areas in Brisbane that had lots. Often worse in low socio-economic areas where people are less likely to vaccinate their dogs.

But don't make the mistake of not socialising your dog because you are worried about parvo. It is so important to get your dog out and about, but just be choosy where you take him.
