We have been away for 3 weeks in QLD and he has been in the same types of grass. The vet said it was grass mites, I even questioned the vet over lice from bats, and the wide life around and he said this is grass mites. I myself googled it, they need a host like fleas, when a dog gets fleas they jump off bite you and jump back on. Same with the mites, they jump on the dog, bite the dog and then jump back into the grass. Its all over his snout, under arms, tummy sides and chest. Around his mouth is probably the worst, where it is normally black, its like the black has worn off making it pink. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Permoxin kills it, but is bloody expensive. For me to do the entire yard it will cost over $300. But then once the wind picks up, they can still blow in from the school next door. casowner Posted January 14, 2010 Share Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) I found giving my horses apple cider vinegar in their food has kept the bities and blowies away from them. Would this work for dogs or not?
