skyehaven
Any ideas on putting weight on dogs.
Darkrai
Chicken wings and Lamb flaps/necks. Increase their food, I've tried the hight protien and fat diets but they didn't worked, changed the food and they started putting on weight - just normal everyday food and they're blimping nearly lol

The Spotted Devil
What age Skyehaven? I was going to ask the same question. I tried desperately to put weight on my young Dally (there are threads to prove it ) but he was simply a very late maturing dog and, at 3 years of age, is finally filling out a bit more and not looking half starved. I don't like to feed too much fat as you can trigger pancreatitis so higher protein would be my suggestion. A search for "satin balls" would also give you a few recipes

The Spotted Devil
A good dry food that a friend of mine uses for her EXTREMELY active retrieving Labs is Artemis Maximal. I feed Ziggy a combination of the regular adult food and chicken frames but the Maximal is very high protein and a combination of that and some lamb flaps/chicken wings might help. Damn male hormones
Lowenhart
A trip to the dog chiropractor is always on my list for underweight dogs. I worm then if things aren't improving, it's a trip to the chiro. I've had a couple of dogs I could not get weight on and they all benefited from the adjustment - some gaining so much weight as to be fat in a couple of weeks post chiro visit. It's just one more thing to consider.
poodlefan
2 1/2 years, he has been used at stud for 1st time and since doesn't eat all of his food, he is dog that needs weight to look his best for the show ring, so want something so he doesn't have to eat as much but gets and keeps weight on. I have to "fatten" Howard for shows. I generally feed him up the week before. I'd suggest chicken drumsticks (thigh meat is higher fat), lamb flaps, gravy beef or diced lamb. Palatable and fatty. Should give good coat shine too! ETA: I feed Artemis Power too. Edited January 13, 2010 by poodlefan
Kirislin
I've been fattening up a little whippet I am caring for. I am encouraging her to eat as much of her dry kibble breakfast and when she's had her fill of that I offer her a chicken wing. Same with evening meal, after she's eaten her fill, out comes the chicken wing chaser. I also offer her lamb ribs at least once per week.
