Kirislin
I love seeing dogs in clam shells and wading pools Your wish is my command I bought the clam shells for Tag the whippet but as you can see we have a bit of a duckweed infestation. And that happened because of the tadpole infestation! Edited January 11, 2010 by Kirislin

Teebs
Already at 10am it is 30 degrees. 40 at 10am here. scary. Can't believe pets get left out in this by anyone. Stay safe. It is hotter inside than it is outside here. My house holds the heat, if the dogs had to be left inside during the day when I was at work they would be in their crates, no way to cool down. Right now, Kaos is inside with me, but the 3 cats are out in their cat runs, and Atlas is out in the garage on the cold floor fast asleep

SwaY
How far is the bush from your place Inspector Rex?How much warning would you need to get out? She lives in Suburbia 500mtrs from me Yes there is some empty blocks of land and padocks as it used to be rural. 90 of our suburb has now been built on. SkySoaringMagpie
natamalie, how about the bathroom or laundry and put down water, bedding, newspaper and food? I think the outside option as described by natamalie is fine. No way would I leave an 8 month old pup in one room all day.. I agree, ours are outside in insulated runs with frozen water buckets, extra water, plenty of shade and toys - plus a fly catcher to deal with the pesky flies - something I think is important in suburban backyards as well. Only thing is to make sure your dog can't reach the fly catcher, while it's non-toxic bait it's disgusting when they help themselves to a fly and sugar water cocktail... J...
Theyre great shots KirislinI'll throw my 2 in also Huga called the first one a Crocodog His and hers... Awesome photos! I've just ducked home for lunch, the bucket of water I froze and dumped in their water bowl is nearly melted. They are currently eating home made chicken stock icey poles before they come inside. They can have the run of the kitchen and study with the a/c until I get home from work. They also have a pool in the shade, heaps of shade from a big oak tree but I'm happier if they are inside. I wish I was with them!

Loving my Oldies
Whatever else IR regales us with, SwaY, at least she has started a genuinely useful thread. When I was listening to the news last night, I was thinking of doing something similar. Victoria sounds like a nightmare at the moment. Keep safe everyone. Bisart Dobes
Lucky me - I'm home for the week and my dogs have all been out for a swim at the dog pool and then a very quick run (more for mental release than anything) on the way home - they are now inside with the aircon on. The bush behind us was burnt out last Feb and the fire got to our back fence twice before Elvis got it under control (luv that chopper ) but still the trailer is primed with dog supplies - fully packed and ready to go. Our stuff is in the hall cupboard just in case. FYI - its 35 degrees at my house now - we are 10 mins from KCC Park and yes its in the shade . megan_
I iz a grinch. Had new aircon installed and I haven't left it on for them. I was raised never to leave an electrical applicance on when you're not home - lest it catch on fire. So my two are indoors (with a dog door in case they want to go outside), and iceblocks in their water. I did buy them a clam shell pool and polar mats but they refuse to use them - they act as if I'm trying to murder them! They are both young and fit and I'm sure they'll be fine. MotherMoocher - I think we Victorians are lucky - those in South Australia have been suffering for days! We must be better whingers though

Bjelkier
I don't have aircon so the dogs stay outside. They have stacks of shade and cool areas to lie on. They haven't used their clam shell in the past either. Neither do I, its always cooler in the dog runs then in the house. They have plenty of water and shade and will be fine. Kirislin
Well so far here it's not too bad, only 34C according to my thermometer so hopefully it will all turn out to be a fizzer. I wont mind at all if the weather bureau got it wrong. I keep listening to the radio though and going out to look at the sky for smoke, same thing I did on that awful Feb day. BJean
Hey IR - It doesn't count if your thermometer is outside in the blazing sun!It says on BOM - 34.1 in Scoresby. but in Vic there is great variance in temperature depending on where you are located??
