Roxy Lady
Ok, so i came home from a funeral on the 2nd and Roxy was withdrawn, not eating and weirdly burying her chicken necks that i tried handfeeding her, she was a bit swollen with a clear discharge. I assumed she must be coming into season as she had been fine before i left 2 days before. I rang my breeders to let them know that she may be coming into season etc. Anyway we had to leave again on the 4th so my sister watched her, and she went back to being her usual self, we got back yesterday and swelling has gone down slightly and now the discharge is whitish. If it is a season its her 7th-8th day in. But i'm wondering if it is a season?? She has had no blood?? Has anyone had a bitch have this before? I'm taking her to the vet tomorrow for tests, so will know for sure whats going on, but i thought i'd just ask.
Bisart Dobes
I haven't had this but they can have what is termed a 'silent season' for their first season - how old is she ??? The first season can be with no bleeding and technically they don't become fertile (or so a vet told me but I wouldn't risk anything) - it gets their bodies ready for full season. If she has had a normal season already I would get her checked for infection - though it doesn't sound like it. If she hasn't I would wait as it is more than likely a silent one. Roxy Lady
It would be her 3rd, her last season she had to get the Aliver injection to abort. That was back in April. She is 2 1/2. There is no smell or anything.
ellz
Could be a hormonal thing in reaction to the needling.
Partipaws
Is she kept with any other dogs? male or female?
Roxy Lady
No, she is an only dog. In thought it could be just the start of her season, as she was very hormonal at the start which i thought was due to the Alixer from last season. But she is back to normal except for this whitish discharge. I'm waiting for it with fingers crossed to brown up and turn bloody by this afternoon ! I have squeezed in an appointment for her at the vets tomorrow, so hopefully we will figure this out and shes ready to be mated in a few days!!! I am able to use the dog i was talking about in my last thread (stud advice), so i'm dying for her to come in. Its around her due time too, thats why i first thought she was starting but the whitish discharge has me a bit confused .
Bisart Dobes
I'd say then its the injection having messed her up hormonally a bit. I would want a normal season before I would try and mate one of my girls if I'd had to use something like that.
Roxy Lady
I'd say then its the injection having messed her up hormonally a bit. I would want a normal season before I would try and mate one of my girls if I'd had to use something like that. I told my breeders she had the injection and they didn't say anything about waiting, and i asked the vet when she had it whether i should skip a season before mating but he said there was no reason not to I think i'll decide fully what to do after i see the vet tomorrow. The dog i have planned the mating with normally lives in QLD but is currently at Roxys breeders but unsure for how long, so i would be disappointed to miss out on him while he is there IYKWIM. Will let you know how she goes tomorrow
ellz
The problem is that there is no definitive answer as to how Alizin will affect any particular animal. This is one of the reasons that I, and others, won't use them. It's the unknown that worries me.
Bisart Dobes
I hope everything works out for you the way you want. I wouldn't use these injections due to the unknown as well - vets can only tell you the research data or the sales speel. I have known of bitches that were affected fertility wise by this - one permanently. But these things affect different girls in different ways - just like medications affect us differently. Roxy Lady
Took Roxy to the vet today, he is just as confused as we are. She hasn't got a temp, he did an ultrasound and said there was nothing on that to indicate anything. He said he could take a swab but by the time we got results back it would be too late and she would miss. So hes given he a high dose of antibiotics and has said to try mating her, it'll either happen or it won't, but you don't want miss out. So i will discuss this with Roxys breeders and see what they think.
Aziah
Why didn't you do a progesterone test???
Fordogs
Progesterone test first. Can't believe your vet didn't suggest that first or even do a slide and see what the cells are doing.
fifi
Totally agree with Aziah & fordogs, yes - eliminate possible infections, but a cytology smear at least could have been done on the spot and bloods sent for progesterone. fifi
Roxy Lady
I asked the vet to do a prog test, but he said if she is in, she would need to be at the stud before the results got back in anyway, so he just said its probably better to just keep an eye on her or take her down and try, it'll either happen or it won't. But i have just kept an eye on her and it seems it wasn't a season as her swelling has gone down and the discharge has dried up and disappeared, so the anitbiotics have made a difference. I spoke with Roxys breeder he said hopefully with the infection cleared up, she might come into season in a few weeks. Bit disappointed, but oh well, what can ya do??? Fingers crossed for a season soon!
