Beth.
Hi Everyone (sorry I posted this in the training section, but hope you all don't mind me posting here...) Just in need of a little help... I'm looking for a good obedience club in Brisbane to further my girls training (4 month olf Australian Shepherd). She's done puppy school, and i'll love to get her into obedience - with the idea of further down the track competing in obedience with her. I've come across the Pine rivers obedience club - anyone have any comments about them??? Also, I've never really been into this side of dog ownership (having access to obedience schools etc) so i'm not really sure exactally what it all includes, so if anyone has some info they'd like to share i'd be greatful!!! Look forward to your replies!!! Beth and Lottie

huski
Whereabouts in Brissy are you? Depending on what you want to do with her, clubs can be a good place to start to get a general idea of what is involved but you'll find many triallers don't actually train at clubs much themselves (at least, not in the sense that they take their dogs through all the levels or entire classes). I found obedience club most valuable from a socialisation perspective, it was great to get Daisy out amongst other dogs when she was a pup in a controlled environment. kelpiesrule
Pine Rivers is good, I also highly recommend Metro (at Marchant park, Chermside)
kelpiesrule
Oh and if you let them know from the start what your goals are, Im sure they will put you on the right path with your training from the start. Obedience clubs are always excited when they get potential triallers.

huski
Hey Beth Not Kelpiesrule, but I've been a Metro member for a few years now. Wasn't there much last year but will definitely be back with Daisy this year for some distraction work/ring run outs

Nic oh lah
Hey BethNot Kelpiesrule, but I've been a Metro member for a few years now. I've sent off an email also, can't wait to get started. Sophie is 20months and hasn't had any training until we got her 6wks ago, so here comes the handful. We're getting a couple of private sessions with an instructor from Metro before we start as Sophie is a big girl so having her a little more 'ready' should help calm her to focus. Can't wait to meet Lottie!
Mystiqview
Teamwork Dog Obedience Link as well are very good. Some very experienced and very good trainers there. They train at a variety of locations on the north-side. Caboolture is also pretty good. Their training starts I think about 7pm, a bit earlier than Metro (8:15pm) Depends on where you are. Metro is on Monday nights, Pine Rivers on a Friday night. Edited January 7, 2010 by Mystiqview
