Rainy
Ok im at a loss as to what to with diesel he is not drinking water outside We have a large water tub outside that he hasnt drank out of for a couple months, so i started putting his inside water bowl outside in different locations whilst i wasnt home and he still wont drink out of it, it hasnt been a problem untill now, but its getting hotter now and im spending more time out due to school hloidays etc, he has a dog door into the laundry but no access to the rest of the hose so im going to try putting his water in there and start feeding him in there so hopefully he will drink aswell but can you recomend any thing else to do im just worried he will dehydrate while im out one day thanks in advance
poodlefan
How often do you clean and replace the water in the tub?
persephone
He won't dehydrate Put water in a couple of different containers- in a few different places- but, of course, all in shade.... he probably finds the inside water cooler- so waits until he can drink there... if you are going out- put ice in a bucket bowl- and that will be cool as it melts... Don't know- never had a dog who wouldn't drink outside. Some don't need to drink many times a day- often ours will only drink twice..sometimes more, if they are racing around, of course... TangerineDream
Interestingly, Tango does exactly the same thing - he has a clamshell full of water that he stands in when he's hot, and a large bucket full of fresh clean water...but he waits till I get home and the first thing he will do after he's greeted me is to go and have a drink from the bucket in the bathroom...but if I put that outside, he won't drink from it either...will be interested to see what the solution might be. Erny
It could be that he's a bit stressy when you're away. It might be that he is drinking, but perhaps only smaller amounts. My boy often has a good long drink of water when I've been out and return - obviously especially on warmer days. In some of the worst heat, when I've had to be away and him outside, I am certain that he would lap up some water from time to time if he needed it. I suspect you might find that's the same for Diesel. To put your mind at rest, pick a warm day and set up a bit of a web-cam exercise from where you can see Diesel approach his water bowl. luckypup
my dog is exactly the same! he wont drink a single bit of water while he is outside and we're away from the house...he has 3 bowls around outside of fresh water, even 1 by the gate where he lies waiting for us to come home! then he just comes inside and drinks a heap of water! i guess its just a stress related thing! not really much more you/i can do...as long as they have shade, they wont get that dehydrated you wouldnt think...
