Guest belgian.blue
Well today made me realise I don't have a doggy first aid kit. I was trimming Ivys dew claws and cut one a little too short, so we had bleeding and I didn't have anything to stop the bleeding! I kept calm and so did Ivy. Read online that baking soda can clot the area, so we tried that and it worked but Ivy decided to run after the cat .. bleeding came back and we added more baking soda. It stopped soon after that. It stung her so I'm defiently not using it again but it worked. She's been a really good girl all afternoon since it happened, laying quietly on her bed as she was told to. So I'm wondering if any first aid kits contain the special powder to stop the bleeding? I will get some anyways but I should also have a first aid kit. becks
i find the styptic powder/pens have gone off by the time I need them, I just use a bar of soap scrape the nail across it and the soap will plug the nail.

The first vet I called after it happened said to rub a cake of soap over the nail. I tried but Ivy kept pulling away and the soap was getting covered in blood and I wasn't too sure if she was just making things up .. now I know she wasn't
