How Does Your Dog Drink Water?

I always assumed all dog lapped up water ... until we got the little brat.

When he drinks he submerges his muzzle/head up to his eyes (or sometime over his eyes) and drinks his water that way. Obviously if the water is not that deep then he will lap up the water but his preference is submerging his head.

Is there any other dogs out there that drinks this way or is my boy just abnormal ...

Most my newfs have drunk their water like that.....and then with a wet muzzle come and give you a adoring look resting on your lap

Bad Alice (American Cocker puppy) drinks with her front feet in the water bowl.....guess who will be drinking from a bunny waterer when she is ready to be shown! When she has finished drinking, she then SITS in the bowl so that the other puppies can't get any or she will happily dig all of the remaining water out and spread it everywhere.

Koda Stafford prefers to drink from the horse troughs by sitting in them. Or she will drink out the dam, submerged so that only her head can be seen. :angeldevil:

My two are pretty normal, except that Ahsoka gets a large mouthful right before she's done and then walks off with it dripping out of her mouth!

BUT - I did take some photos of a friend's dogs... Mel drinks like this!!

I have two snorklers here. Both my older Vizsla and my GSP will drink with their head in the water up or over their eyes. Interestingly they both like to drink from the running tap, and my other two who drink from a bowl/bucket 'normally' don't. My younger Vizsla is the most delicate drinker and would prefer not to have to touch the water to drink

A paw in the water is optional

Thats a great picture, it gave me a great chuckle.

To the OP - have you got a pic..?

6. Very feminine delicate drinker and never spills a drop or slops it anywhere - but she won't drink out of a bowl that 'someone' has drooled in - good lord no

Most of my boy Dobes have been submarines but my Popcorn was exactly like this girl!! The look on her face was priceless like Ewww Boy Germs!

Yep, Jack is the same - full muzzle in (often paws and squeaky toys as well) then drips water everywhere.

Their bowl sits on a bathmat in the kitchen which has to be replaced every day as it's soaking by the evening. The outside bowl is often tipped over by him trying to get both paws in at the same time :D

My GSD on occasion still submerges his muzzle and spashes water all over the place at 2 1/2 years old. "Hey!!!! drink properly" is his command to lap nicely which he obey's but from a puppy, he used to stick his head in it, feet, tip the water bowl over...........generally a natural messy drinker :D
