Jennt Posted December 26, 2009 Share Posted December 26, 2009 Thought Charlie was a bit lethargic this morning due to spending yestrday racing around with his best friend Scruffy at our friends place. But he gradually got worse and lost use of his legs. Took him to Baulkham Hills emergency hospital at about 10pm. They're sure it's a tick, but like me they couldn't spot it. He's in on the drip and they're shaving him off to try and find it. I actually had trimmed his front, face, butt, and stomach this morning, but he's a llasaxbichon so there's still an awful lot of fluff to get through :-( Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Tilly Posted December 26, 2009 Share Posted December 26, 2009 My older GSD boy got a tick and it was more then a week before it was found - we think he picked up the tick on the Monday or Tuesday. He collapsed on the Friday and it wasn't until the Sunday that it was found - up until the tick was found it was believed to be related to an ear infection. By this stage his breathing was laboured, he hadn't toileted since the Friday. The poor boy was in a really bad way and the vet was sure we would loose him. He got the drugs and a mild sedative and I took him home - because leaving him at the hospital would have been too stressful for him (and for the staff). He slept for most of the day, that night and most of the next day ... and the next morning he took his first steps in days. He walked up to my brother (about 6 steps) and sat at his feet. It was another 2 weeks before he was back to normal and we babied him for another month after that just to make sure he was completely back to normal. I am sure Charlie is a fighter and won't let that little tick win. Wishing you both the very best ... and I am waiting to hear some good news in a day or two. Jennt Posted December 27, 2009 Author Share Posted December 27, 2009 So I phoned this morning. They found the tick on his butt in the end, which is one of his trimmed areas. They didn't find it before they clipped off all the rest of him though :-( The woman on the phone this morning worried me with her "oh it's early days" comment though, since the vet last night was so positive. I'm supposed to phone back at 3.00, but will call just after 2.00. Last night they were saying he could be home this evening, but I'm not so sure now... Thanks for the kind words. You got Charlie to medical attention quickly and now that he is shaved you can be certain there is no more ticks. He is in the right place for the moment and he needs to rest and recover and hopefully will start to pick up in a day or two. Stay strong ... He's obviously improved hugely because the vet nurse told me she's sure he told her he loves her! She also said that the vet has said to apologise for the quality of the clip (it was nearly midnight when she did it) and that the only difference between a good haircut and a bad one is 8 weeks... uhoh...
