Hi Trish,

you know we are thinking of you and Grover........

One thing.......

Some-one mentioned Liver Shunt......

Nasty, but this is EXTREMELY unlikely to be Grover's problem....

First..... I have never known it to appear here in Oz in Deerhounds.

Second..... He would have been sick, weak.... from the day you got him

Third.... I have NEVER seen it in any dogs from the breeders you got him from.... indeed I have NEVER seen it in Australian Deerhounds.

Best of luck... we just went through a BAD time with one of our dogs.... didn't eat for a month... know how you feel.....

Regarding possible liver shunt(s), it is possible for a dog to have them for many years before becoming symptomatic/ill. A dog we bred started to have problems in upper level obedience - would go to the scent articles and would become confused. To make a long story short, it was found that he had multiple liver shunts and was pts whilst on the operating table. There was no history of this problem in the lines/breed and the specialists had no answers for why this occured. Jake was 9.5 years old when this problem reared its ugly head.

I hope this is not the situation with Grover. Please hug the sweet boy for us. :(

I have been reading but didn't post before because I only found the thread when Grover was due to come home and thought all was well.

So sorry to hear you are going through this with Grover. (hug) Hugs to you both and an extra special hug for Grover, hope the AB's do the trick and he comes good soon.

Just rang for another update. His temperature has gone back down to normal. The bloods have been sent off and we will know more about it then - around midday. Jana is starting to be confident that it is not the bone marrow cancer but we won't know that for sure of course until the bloods come back.

All those who have had desperately sick dogs will understand what I mean when I say how helpful it is to have DOLers who, quite simply, understand how you feel when no-one else does. Thank you everyone - for the PMs, the phone calls and the support.
