Tiggy
Has anyone tried the mango dumbbell or somthing similar? Banjo is a bit if a biter and the wood is so soft. I accidently left his last dumbbell out and it ended up as sawdust :D . http://www.obedienceproducts.com/about.html

Dumbbells are individually sized for your dog. Not sure about chewability, though. I know the dogs find them "appealing" but I don't give mine a chance to chew theirs. shoemonster
I thought about it as our wooden one had the same fate as yours (even though it was never left alone with her, staffords just have a wonderful skill at destroying things in the blink of an eye, even holding a wooden dumbell when teaching them leaves toothprints every time), but instead went for the hard plastic one, got 2, one to train with and one to trial with
Tiggy
Yeah Banjo leaves tooth marks to. I might try wood and plastic to see if he has a preference. What size plastic dumbbell do you use for Ed shoemonster?
shoemonster
lol he will probably prefer the wooden one but cos it feels nice to mouth! Ed's dumbell from outer to outer is 14.5cm The large size on this site http://www.callicoma.com.au/training1.htm
Tiggy
I've ordered the normal wood dumbbell in hardwood instead of pine. I'll see how that goes.
shoemonster
Cool, let us know how it holds up (and guard it well when not training )
RubyStar
I've ordered the normal wood dumbbell in hardwood instead of pine. I'll see how that goes. Good idea! My pine one got destroyed in a matter of sessions, just through normal wear and tear! The thing was not thrown on pavement, just grass, and my girl only mildly mouthed it. Yet the bell parts got huge chucks coming off them! Think I may just stick with plastic, even though it was discovered in my training bag when I wasn't home and was chewed up nicely by Millie I'm using that as my training dumbell, and will order a new one when it comes time to trial with it
J...
I've just been looking at one of these myself - the only dumbell I have is a plastic fluro yellow one that I found under the house when I moved in Been well and truly "loved" by it's former owner, a GSD, so it's also too big for her. I bought one of the rounded end ones but she picks it up on the ends instead of the mouthpiece. I'm wondering if she'd do the same with a wooden one so we might go for another plastic one which is correctly sized. We will have to work on the mouthing Does anyone have any ideas on where to get the plastic ones and what size/measurement for a small lab sized dog?
