Dogs Rib Cage Fusing Together?

Our 3 year old wire haired foxie was in agony yesterday, After 2 visits to our vet in the space of 5 hours. He was given strong pain relief. We gave him one at 11.30pm then put him to bed ( he sleeps in our room in his puppy cage ) At 4 am in woke up yelping in pain, so we gave him more pain relief and put him in bed with us. 9am he woke again, yelping so we took him down to the lort smith. They xrayed him and found his ribs are fusing together

We are going back in the morning to speak to the vet about what can be done.

Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks,

Amanda

Is it actually occuring now or has it been present since birth?

My youngest poodle has some fused ribs.. in and of themselves they don't necessarily create problems but if they put pressure on the spine its another matter.

Has the vet indicated why the ribs are causing pain?

Thanks for the replies.

We got Duke as an 18 month old. We never noticed any problems in the past, up untill Tuesday afternoon, He seemed perfectly fine, Running around with our other Foxie, playing eating....

We rang his breeder last night and he said there was never a problem when Duke was a pup, And no problems in his blood line as far as he knows. He is going to do some research and get back to us.

We go back to the vet and pick Duke up soon, then we will know more.

Good luck. I've been through the drama of spinal issues with my boy this year and its no picnic.

I'd definitely recommend a specialist consult if they indicate any spinal issues. Don't rule out a chiropractic consult either.

And if he's carrying any excess weight, time for a diet.
