Missymoo
Which are the favored clippers used in salons and home groomers? Interested in taking up grooming someday in our area... Also what are the basics you need to start with? (ie equipment for home grooming)

becks
Oster A5 you will probably now get a list of clippers in nearly every make as we all like different makes/models!
poodle3081
What clipper to use is a personal preference as are scissors. In general stick with a known brand such as Wahl, Andis, Laube or Double K, all of these brands make a professional quality clipper and it will be supported by parts and service. In Australia very few groomers use Oster as they run hot and lack power.
Rascalmyshadow
I would suggest Wahl or Laube, Andis are good but they don't last. Stay away from Oster they heat up quickly, don't have enough power and they are uncomfortable to hold.
Dogsfevr
Double K are the most powerful of those suggested but it depends on how many dogs you plan to groom & the types

They do run warm but not that its ever been a problem IMHO. Wouldn't be without my old Osters!
