Kelly_Louise
I have a friend that has 2 big dogs that eat their own poo. It seems to have gotten worse since they were put on a diet (due to family who were minding them over feeding). Firstly, just like to know what causes them to do this (could there be something lacking in the diet)? Secondly, how can this be stopped or discouraged? Thankfully Chloe and Sasha only eat cat, duck or bird poo... THANK YOU!
luvsdogs
There are many reasons why they eat their own poo. Being, lack of nutrients, habit forming & they like it, the old starvation thing in the wild - renewable resource. I have heard on other forums that if you put pineapple in their food they won't eat it because it gives the poo a nasty taste. Don't know if that works or not. pie
I tried the pineapple on mine and it didn't work. Still trying to find a cure. Blerk. Some of the suggestions I've seen in other threads: A product called Thrive D added to their food Stalking them and sprinkling white pepper / a few drops or Tabasco sauce on their poo just before they try and eat it
~Archie~
I know some people have added Thrive D powder to the dogs food and it has stopped them from eating poo.
Kelly_Louise
I've passed on all the suggestions so far - THANK YOU! Hopefully she can find something that works, so if anyone else has any other ideas or something they've had some success with, bring them on. She's trying so hard with her dogs and if it's not one problem it's another!! Thank goodness my girls don't eat their own... :D Ewwwwwwwww. Sasha doesn't even like to retrieve a toy that's gone anywhere even close to the vicinity of her poo!!
