pixie_meg
Oberon has a fluidy lump on his elbow. Doesn't seem to be bothering him too much so i'm wondering if i should just wait over night to see if it is just some inflammation. Can you tell i'm a first timer? I cant see any wound just a lump the size of a 50c coin(so its fairly large on his elbow. I'm thinking he just bumped it but what else could it be? cavNrott
It's probably a hygroma.
SwaY
Vet will drain it, or you could drain it yourself. I drained my dogs when he had them. Some continue to return, others do not.
pixie_meg
so i just did some reading on hygroma. Can i take it that it may be reabsorbed at this stage or that it will likely get worse if not drained. would you take to the vet to be drained or leave it to resolve on its own as i've read thats suggested. he has been sleeping through the day on floorboards. SwaY
I would hold off a few days, Put soft beds where he likes to sleep on the floor boards. If it doesn't heal up go to a vet. Take pictures of if daily if you can, that way you can check the pictures to make sure it's getting bigger/smaller and your just not imagining it. becks
Yup, lots of soft bedding, see how it goes for a few days/week. Don't go for the option of having a drain put in it. My girls eventually went when it was drained and injected with a steroid.
casowner
Jake had a hygroma we got it drained and it came back up, I put pressure bandages on - he ate them. The vet wanted to do surgery but I didn't want to on the elbow of a growing giant breed. His has gone done to where it is barely noticeable, it took months though. I agree soft bedding for him.
