RubyStar
I did a DWD seminar once, and I admit it was quite fun. But I don't foresee me ever getting into it
mirawee
Ness, I will look up the rules for both and then decide. My dogs don't do many tricks though and both love me too much to work away from me And they can heel fairly well (certainly with more enthusiasm than I saw from the dogs on the weekend ) Finding 1m music is even harder than 1:30! Will have to see what music editting programmes I can get ;) The Starters dog on the weekend did 1:33 I think. RubyStar - maybe it will motivate Ruby in her heelwork ;) ETA: Oh and sparkly costumes are easy to find ;) Just go to an opshop Edited July 6, 2011 by mirawee
ness
You don't need many tricks for freestyle. You need more then just left side obedience heelwork for a HTM routine though. Music editing is the easy bit - what sort of music are you after if you want something edited flick me the mp3 and I'll see what I can do. I will also say my CDX titled dog failed her starters HTM routine but passed freestyle and Ness heels quite well and enthusiastically. So there is definitely more to a HTM routine then you might otherwise think. Edited July 6, 2011 by ness
mirawee
HTM I figured I could just do left and right side healing at various speeds with dog both facing forward and backward and spins Note: I am not planning on doing more than Starters at this stage They (attempt to) do agility too so aren't stuck on the LHS. Oh, and note: this idea started taking place on Saturday night after watching a comp (had to leave before the Freestyle)... the most I have done atm is see what shorter songs there are... Am thinking of Teddy Bear by Elvis for my Lappy But that is around 1:45 so would need to be shortened. I don't think the next comp is until the end of August... So I might take you up on your offer once I decide whether I really want to do it or not Hmm, just saw your edit... I wonder which dogs (if any) passed on Saturday then! RubyStar
And they can heel fairly well (certainly with more enthusiasm than I saw from the dogs on the weekend ) RubyStar - maybe it will motivate Ruby in her heelwork ;) Those dogs might train really well but get stage fright in the ring I'm going to use Rally-O to help with Ruby's motivation ;) And besides, it's 95% my nerves that affects Ruby's motivation! And I get nervous with everything, even a DWD would make me nervous!! :p
Mason_Gibbs
Mason just shuts down in the ring lately, no idea whats up with him but leaving him for the whole of july due to infection and my mum being here so min training for july
mirawee
Could be ring shy RS. And it certainly wasn't all of them and even the unenthusiastic still heeled "well". I think I need to find out how many passed now

RallyValley
What classes are you doing and where? Shame mum's MS isn't here yet. Mum is joining SR obedience classes when pup has had it's shots. She comes home August 5th. So once she has had her shots I could meet up with you and ST for a puppy play date Ruby loves puppies but I fear she might knock Zora over. She loves playing with that cute little Pap pup ;) and she tried playing with a coolie pup on Sunday She is so cute, she lays on her belly to play with the littlies. Anyway, you're welcome to use Ruby for socialisation but understand if you think she's not suitable, being a Lab and all ;) Regardless, I want puppy cuddles!!! We are doing Train a Pup time with Carolyn that's down your way. It's Sat at 2.30 so maybe you and Amypie can come along... then you can get lots of puppy cuddles Definately interested in a play with Ruby, sounds like she plays the same way Toby does with pups Yeah feel welcome to use mason he wont mind at all and i have the chi x from thurs until the 23rd Definately have to tee that up too. :D I have a 5 month old border collie X kelpie you are welcome to use althouggh she can be quite boisterous and may be a bit too much for your little girl Sounds like a potential playdate for when Zora is a bit older has had a bit more expirence with other dogs, would hate to accidentaly scare her this early. Oh and RS and anyone else that offered, I would really like to join in on those play dates that RV is having with Zora... thanks! I don't think anyone would turn thier nose up at double the puppy cuddles. ;) Sounds like she's settling in brilliantly, and Toby sounds like he's doing so well too :D Let me know when you get some play dates set up....I need puppy photography practice not to mention puppy cuddling practice ;) Glad to hear Indy is better Will definately let you know, I need a nice DOL profile pic for Zora - happy for you to waterstamp it and link to your flickr too. :D Varda is good with puppies If they annoy her too much though she snaps at them, but not in an aggressive way So who has entered the Royal? Or is planning too? Will have to see Varda too. Pups need to learn manners and dogs like Varda are perfect for that Zora will be ib baby puupy still but will be entered in the Royal. Have just got our hip and elbow scores back :D Go Cider and Strauss! So glad to hear that for you.
fetchindawgs
Mirawee, make sure you try several pieces of music and try them whilst heeling your dog to see if they suit the steps/movement of the dog. It is amazing how many people get the music wrong. Secondly, if you are doing HTM then your dog needs to be excellent at heeling. So many people go into this event thinking it is going to be so easy, but they are doing their dog and themselves a disservice if the heeling is not up to scratch. The other thing that is very noticeable in these events is, which dogs actually enjoy it and wag their tails and look happy whilst doing their heeling. My first Starters in HTM I used a whole song which went for 2m 20 seconds, so don't be afraid to use a longer piece of music (none of mine have been under 2 min). You can teach a couple of easy tricks first up which you can use in your routine, but keep it simple and mostly do different types of heeling with your dog in it. Hope this helps. I actually would really like to see one of her classes as you guys think so highly of it that I have to see it for myself! I am heading to training around 10am so hopefully will be finished by then (retrieving training so it does take longer). I think we'll be halfway to her class anyway (was it in Armadale or something?) I can just leave Ruby in the car, she'll be right ;) Let me know! I cant see why she would mind but I will ask and double check. Last time I saw people bring friends, thier familes ect. The only thing is there is limited parking so its probably better to go in one car.

Ptolomy
I entered the Royal on line. Had an issue yesterday with not being able to enter 2 obedience classes, emailed them and it was fixed today I had the x-rays done at Applecross and sent them to Rawlinson in SA for reading. I have his information and the sheets you need to fill out if you decide to use him. Reading costs were $100 for hips and elbows. I posted the x-rays last Wednesday and the results were emailed last night with a note they were being posted today.
