I think that's it for today's severe storm warning issued by the Bureau of Meteorology, but the Cyclone Bianca warning is still on for tomorrow. It was Pudding's first thundery rain with us, so I took her outside and did some training with her. At first she was a bit tentative of the thunder, but after a minute she was like "Hmmm.... well, you appear to be acting normal, so I'll just go with it". I knew it would be almost as loud inside with our tin roof, and I do not want her turning into a scaredy dog who won't pee outside when it's raining! Got a bit of a soggy doggy now though!

Good idea BonJosie, when my pups were little I'd take them outside and have crazy ball games in the rain and thunder  I think the neighbours thought I was bonkers. Neither of them have any issues with storms now.

Awesome idea! Millie is a bit of a scaredy cat with storms, but I just ignore her and she lays under the table. Or if it's the middle of the night, I lock her in the bathroom as it's the only room I could close off  Lucky she doesn't make noises, that gets irritating!

Mason is fine with storms but my 2 cats are pathetic, they can sense one coming and go hide under beds or in closets etc  We did get pretty bad, loud storms where we come from so I think thats what sparked it.

Power back on now. Our club training is cancelled for tomorrow as they just dont know what the weather is going to be like.

Well I think it has been a crappy beginning of the year for a lot of us DOLers :(

I had a "great" day yesterday. Went out in the morning and found that one of my foals had injured herself in the lightning storm on Thursday night. So the vet came out for her and she now has a bandaged leg and needs injections or antibiotics for the next couple of days. Then yesterday late afternoon Dad rang to find out when I needed him to come hold the foal for her next injection and asked me to bring the rat bait he had left on my kitchen table when the pest controller had come the day before :( Needless to say, there was no bait left as my counter-surfing Kelpie Kinta had removed it from the table :) So all three dogs off to the vets and they have started Vitamin K treatment. All seem fine atm although Banjo is really flat again, but then that started prior to him eating bait :) I now have 2 weeks to wait until they have blood tests but likely they will be on the tablets for longer than that - luckily they like the taste of them and eat them as treats.

Then this morning two of my horses were acting strangely and one in particular looked very tucked up - went and checked their water trough and it was bone dry! F#&$ing pest controller had turned their water off (it is a auto waterer) :) So they went all yesterday with no water :) Apparently Dad had asked if he needed water and he said no. Then he went and helped himself later on and even though he would have had to flick switches to get the water to work (it is a dual tap line) he didn't seem to think he needed to same to turn it off and turned it off at the tap instead!

So needless to say if Dad ever organises a pest controller for a day I am not there I will be taking the day off work! In the course of one day they 1) Let my dogs out to roam 2) Gave my dogs access to rat bait which they ate and 3) Cut off water to my horses so they ended up mildly dehydrated!

If anything more goes wrong I will go to bed and pull the covers over my head ;)

I would have to strongly agree with you Mirawee!!!!! Weve had a fairly crappy start to the year with family illness, friends with family dramas and the list goes on ;)

I hope your pupsters are all ok, and all the horses are ok!

CC, sorry to hear about your poor little dog, glad she is on the mend though!!

These dogs certainly know how to scare the bejesus out of us!

I was just about home this morning and came across a poor young roo that some mongrel had hit and left :( . Poor little tyke, I had to stop and put him out of his misery, all the while crying and apologising to the poor thing.

I wish people would take responsibility - you know when you hit a roo!!

This isnt the first time Ive had to do it either......shits me to tears........

Ok, rant over!!

Nice bit of rain we had this arvo. And its sooooo lovely and cool now...Bout time!!

Not looking forward to the cyclone though - hope it fizzles out and becomes a "rain bearing depression"

Have booked an appt with a Murdoch Dermatolgist but will ahve to wait till Tahas season has come and gone ( if it ever comes and goes!)

Not having to show much is wonderful! Have just booked for the Darwin Royal ( woohoo only four to go) then we can say we have done all!

Know what you mean there Labrat, when I was a courier driver in the country years ago I was always picking up injured animals or having to go find a farmer with a gun to put them out of their misery. Always ended in tears for me but I couldn't leave them to be eaten alive by insects or slow painful deaths in the sun. I did have a few successes with the birdlife though, where they were only stunned and probably bruised.

One time I hit a roo (horriable experience) and after wrapping it in a sheet carried it on my backseat where my two kids were, looking for help for 100+ km stopping each time it started to get active. Eventually as I couldn't find help and it seemed so distressed as well as me worring about the kids, if it should break free of the sheet I decided I had no choice but to put it down. So I sent the kids to go for a little walk in the bush while I bawled my eyes out and did the deed, like you I found myself apologising to it for not being able to help it. I think there should be laws that make people have to take responsiability for anything they hit on the road, regardless of wether it is a domestic animal, wildlife, birds or feral animals.
