Weasels
Well done Weasels with your herding titles Congratulations Weasels  Congrats weasels i really need to get of my butt and come to training the deatils are in my inbox but i can't access it as my computer crashed can you please tell me time location and date of the next training classes please?? Thanks Thanks guys! :) We got a backlog of High in Trial rosettes from previous trials too, so they walked away with quite a haul Plus I think Chessy is still in line for 2 more reserve high in trial rosettes, but no-one could remember off the top of their head who they were supposed to go to :p Emery if you get in contact with Steph you will be able to book in a training spot - the times and amounts are a bit out of date on that site though, the most recent info I have is - Group lessons will be held on; Wed morning from 10:00 AM Fri afternoon - beginner 2:00 PM or earlier, trial training 4:00 PM Sat - trial training 9:30 AM – Beginner from 12:30 PM as per bookings Bookings are required. Group rates will be; $30.00/ dog, with a $5.00/ dog discount for ABHC of WA members, and a further $5.00/ dog discount after first test title is gained E.g. $20.00 for Club members with a herding title. It's within a quarantine area so you'll need to get directions from Steph :) Good to hear all the other "lame" DOL dogs are doing ok. Kenz's road to recovery has been a little rocky but we are still madly hoping another 6 week sees the back of all her lameness episodes. She had her follow up appointment with the specialist last Friday which wasn't completely good news. She had a physio appointment yesterday who is less concerned about the current equation and who has said with that level of muscle wastage she would be expected to still be having problems as there is no support to keep things where they should. So the next 6 weeks are time for serious muscle rebuilding and fingers crossed we are over the worst of things. And the good news Kenz is allowed to "roam" around the house . Hmmm until I reminded the specialist she isn't the sweet, quiet well behaved dog he gets to see in the consult room. Still she is allowed more freedom at home but is still not allowed to be stupid. I was thinking about Kenz a lot yesterday, glad she's got a bit more freedom and hopefully she'll strengthen up from here :)
ness
The hardest part I am having with Kenz is turning a blind eye to the fact her gait is really off at the moment. As I said to the physio and she is with me on this - after 18 months of lame dog on and off you become so tuned in to the slightest bit being sore and its really hard to untrain yourself out of worrying. She has told me its perfectly normal with that much imbalance though and to ease up on the stressing . She did also jokingly say Kenz has till December to be back to 100% because after that her lameness quota of time is completely exhausted.. And I might add 5-10 min of walking seems like sweet bugger all . Edited June 26, 2012 by ness
Mason_Gibbs
Also try remember Ness that stressing about it wont help, follow surgeon and physios directions and all will be fine :) ETA and remember if Gibbs could overcome hos leg issue im sure Kenz can too ;) his prognosis was he would be only able to do limited activity, after recovery it got changed to lead a full and normal life Edited June 26, 2012 by Mason_Gibbs
OSoSwift
I hope Rommi goes as well as your guys seems to be going. Great to hear they are all going so well though after so much time and pain!
CrazyCresties
Rommi goes in on Friday 29th June for a TPLO. Then 6 weeks of rehab. I need someone with a heated pool to swim her!!! Shite!!! How did all go with Rommi today Oso? Hope she home with you and all settled after the op Some advice from the allergy experts in here please :) Daisy has finished her course of pred and has started chewing her bum and scooting it again, not as bad as before but still fairly regularly. She was at the groomers yesterday and the vet checked her out again, and long story short has recommend a novel protein elimination diet as the first place to start. She recommended pet meat supplies in Leederville and they do roo, which she has had, or horse! I'm really not sure if I could feed horse I know it shouldn't be any different to say roo, but having been a groom in the past, I just don't know if I could! Anyway I see Big Dog Barf, which I normally feed them anyway, does a Turkey allergy diet. How have those with allergy dogs found turkey as a novel protein? I've never feed Daisy turkey but I have wondered if she has an issue with chicken in the past? Is Turkey too similar to chicken to risk? She has an itchy butt, and the vet said some signs on her feet too, but she has always had feet issues - but vastly improved since being here. The rest of her skin and coat is fine, no signs of issues there. We need to see if it is food or environmental, and food is the easiest to control at the moment. Her diet has been pretty stable since we have been here in terms of the brands and variety she gets, so not sure it is that as nothing has changed recently in her diet. Dogsfevr
If she chews her feet i would treat it with tinea cream, often the chewing leaves them moist they become itchy ,chew again so Tinea is an issue, you can just dunk in cheap vinegar aswell. Personally if i had a dog that chewed i would also consider bowen or a chiro as the dog may aslo be sore & chewing for relief . Most allergy suggest Roo first off ,i feed roo to one of my show dogs who didn't havea an issue just liked it but it turned him orange . Turkey can be very rich so either it agrees or it doesn't (more the runs than anything else)
Mason_Gibbs
Funny my 2 are both itching at the moment, I'm assuming it's something like mould spores in the air that they are breathing in but then Masion tested neg for mould spore allergies... Horse is very very rich and canmake them sick, gives my 2 the runs.Has she had goat?? I would go see Mandy the dermatologist she can help u best :) Edited June 29, 2012 by Mason_Gibbs
SparkyTansy
CC I can't remember how Active Daisy is but Roo is very low in fat so feeding it as a main protein source for an extended period can cause them to lose weight. Some dogs don't like roo also. Spartan, my allergy dog who will eat pretty much anything, will not touch roo, especially when raw. He does, however, like turkey, and he does well on Turkey, despite his major allergy to chicken. I haven't tried horse, though! I find it much easier to feed the simple one protein one veg source (like roo and sweet potato) for a period than using a pre made diet, simply because despite it being natural and raw, there are more ingredients and it's less easy to control and work out what the issue could be. Ptolomy
We went down the goat and sweet potato route. You can get goat, roo and horse from the South Street Pet Supply shop. My kids generally don't like roo either.
Mason_Gibbs
Oh and while he ate it in the end, Gibbs didn't want to eat horse ( and this is a dog that will eat plastic, rope etc, whatever is going!!)

Thanks showdog, something I hadn't considered - I'll keep it in mind :) CC I can't remember how Active Daisy is but Roo is very low in fat so feeding it as a main protein source for an extended period can cause them to lose weight. Wouldn't hurt her to lose a bit for sure! but she has had Roo before and I thought it had to be a novel protein they hadn't eaten previously? She won't eat the Big Dog Roo patties, but she does love the Protadog Roo you can get in the supermarket. This is the Turkey barf - too many ingredients I guess? http://www.bigdogpetfoods.com/product-view/turkey-barf-allergy-diet-for-dogs-35 My other concern is the bone and offal content, what do you do about that for the 6-8 weeks? It's bloody typical - I went and filled my dog freezer last week so no room in there at the moment  Thanks for the suggestions so far everyone :)
Mason_Gibbs
If its just for 6-8 weeks just feed the meat and bone if u can get and sweet potato. I know pet chef does minced turkey frames
OSoSwift
How did all go with Rommi today Oso? Hope she home with you and all settled after the op So far she seems to be going quite well. She was wigged out the first night, but been quite happy since. She isn't trying to touch her leg down yet but I am hoping that is just because she is rather soft and doesn't have a huge pain tolerance. She is on some good pain killers though. The thought she might be a bit dopey on all her pills but she seems quite sparky in that regard. She is eating well which I always take as a good sign in any dog :)

ness
OSS what pain killers is she on? Kenz was on quite heavy doses of Tramadol and she was pretty zoombie like until she came off it - not that I really had to much to complain about because it made keeping her quiet so much easier. OSoSwift
OSS what pain killers is she on? Kenz was on quite heavy doses of Tramadol and she was pretty zoombie like until she came off it - not that I really had to much to complain about because it made keeping her quiet so much easier. Rommi is on Tramal and Metacam, she can't have Rimadyl as it makes her very unwell. The vet said oh the dose of Tramadol she is on will make her pretty dopey, but she seems quite normal, slightly quieter but normal. She has touched her toes down a few times, but I think part of the issue is the fact she doesn't walk anywhere, she trots or runs, so when she is out to the toilet she is on three legs because it is quicker. She is touching it down when she toilets and the few steps she does walk. She let out a loud scream this morning but seemed fine if a little quiet straight after, then has been normal so not sure what she did??? Her sutures look great and she hasn't even thought about licking. I am very happy with that as the vet said their isn't much covering her plate, her skin is so fine - like a rabbit. Yep one of the main reasons I got pet insurance, the tear ever so easily! I have to admit it feels good having the insurance and dropping that form in. I would be hell stressed otherwise, especially right now when I have little spare. Edited July 3, 2012 by OSoSwift
ness
Poor Rommi but glad to hear she is ok and lucky for you about the insurance. I have a huge fear of having to redo something in a few weeks time if Kenz is no better and is not sitting well with me given I have no money left as her first surgery wiped me out completely . I have heard from a few people that she shouldn't still be having issues if it was fixed correctly and the story I am being spun about the situation improving when she rebuilds muscle does not sound feasible. . I had to resort to a pain killer for her on Monday night but I will say since then she has finally come back to a much more normal version of herself. Wanting to do stuff again and throwing behaviors at me and is no longer happy to lay around without doing things. RubyStar
for Rommi and a speedy recovery, OSS! Know what you mean about the insurance form! So relieved I am getting paid for Ruby's treatment. Received my 2nd cheque last week, thanks very much! One more hefty cheque to come, then I will be claiming for smaller ongoing ones for her monthly at home injections. She only has 2 more vet treatments to go, then we move to at home ones. That 19 weeks has gone by very fast!!
