I can now tick feet trimming off her list - she layed across my legs and went to sleep bless her.....

Maybe you need to take Gibbs down to the vets or City Farmers every weekend for a weigh in - the last thing you need is for him to put on weight.

Yeah he must never be fat but at the same time he will put on weight as he is still filling out. Growth plates are closed but he will still be developing. The last 2 months he has put in a kg every 2 months so that's slow and steady. Will chat to the specialist on Thursday to see how I know if he is just putting on weight from inactivity or growing a bit. If his growth plates are closed he technically shouldn't grow at all am I right?? What about filing out? He is only 8 months old.

At 8 months i would still expect him to grow ,he should certainly be starting to fill out but generally Labs at 8 months are going through the fugglies & look all legs with a tube body & start to come back into shape from 10 months .

But each dog is different but even with my guys i have only had 1 stop growing at 10 months

That's what I thought Showdog and I was surprised to hear that the growth plates are closed because I remember Mason growing right up until 18 months, he was desexed early though ( Mason) so no idea if that played a large part in him growing taller at that age.

Lol. I think it is a bit harder with an adult, both mine learned to learn so they catch on but i can imagine how different it is with an adult.

How old os Chika?

Millie was pretty easy to teach as an adult. She was at least 2 when I got her. She surprises me sometimes where I will try teach something new to both girls and Millie will pick it up quicker :)

Just checked emails and have been given the great news that Millie's associate gundog application has been approved and she's now eligible to compete in the RATG!! :cheer: I do find it odd though that even after being assessed with photos and deemed a purebred Lab, they still can't/won't put her breed down on catalogues. Her breed is still just recognized as Associate. For obedience and agility entries I put down Lab as the breed, most clubs print it but others still insist on only writing Associate! Having the breed helps stewards find the right dog! She's the only associate entered on Sunday, so we need to spread the word that non-papered gundogs can take part, too :)

Hey RS, was talking to Jo at tracking today and she is hoping to change Zeba over from Assoicate to associate gundog. I told her to hurry up and do it before the next RATG!!

Ari was entered tomorrow although I knew she wouldn't be ready, and now she is in season so has to be scratched anyway! going tomorrow anyway to watch and support everyone :)

did the vet say his plates were closed based on his xrays or just a guess? Maybe they have closed, he has always been a pretty fast grower and looks pretty mature for his age. if his plates have closed he will fill out but not get any taller.

Think Ptolomy is going to have her work cut out with her new little girl who doesn't speak any English - well other than sit and come which are the same in both English and Norwegian.

I have a Norwegian phrase book you can have if you like ;) Glad to hear she is settling in so well :)

Tattoo all done :D

No based on X-rays. We needed to make sure he had finished growing or else the ulna he cut a section out of could just grow back and we start all over again. It will heal closed obviously but it won't grow longer from the growth plate. Yes he has grown extremely fast :)

For those not on my facebook or who don't frequent the retrieving training thread, Ruby won the novice RATG winner.gif

Some very very lovely work by all the dogs! Sadly most of them went out with minor mistakes, with only one qualifier in novice and one in open.

MG - Mason did really well!! Such a shame he was distracted on that last run. I'd really love to know what was out there because we lost more than half the field with whatever that was!!!! Ruby looked in that direction as we got to the flags but luckily watched for the mark when I pointed her in that direction.

I'm so very pleased with Millie, though. She fully broke on her first retrieve, putting her completely out, but if I could bottle that enthusiasm I would thumbsup1.gif She marked both retrieves incredibly, and was straight out and back with no nonsense in between :D My unpapered Lab did me proud! ;)

Hi fellow Westralians! I haven't been in here for ages.

I am wondering if anyone has an old whelping box they wouldnt mind lending or donating for a rescue bitch about to whelp? It needs to be about 70cm x 70cm or just a bit bigger. Or can anyone direct me to where is the best place to ask?

I have a foster Cavvy here who was rescued from a puppy farm along with 40 others and is ready to whelp. I have whelping boxes but they're far to big.

Cheers :-)

Congratulation Ruby  and well done Millie-Moo and Mason :D Sounds like a good day. You'll have to let me know when then next one is, I'd like to take some pics of gundogs in actions :)

Sorry Whipitgood I can't help with a whelping box, but I hope all goes well for the little one, and the others who were rescued :)

CC, the next one is currently scheduled for the 22nd April to coincide with the retrieving trials, however, they are going to try and reschedule for the following week as it took longer than expected, so there won't be enough time to hold it on the same day as trials. I think the trials on 22nd April are being held in Upper Swan (but don't quote me on that!) and the RATG the following week I think also Upper Swan? Anyway, I don't think it will be too far from home (ie. out in whoop whoop 2+ hrs away) so if you're interested in taking photos of gundogs in action either at a retrieving trial or the RATG, there are a few options for you in April :)
