Ranger00
Hi everyone I'm new to DOL with a new BC pup coming home mid-October, but am an experienced BC owner, and BC fanatic! ;) Looks like this thread is a bit quiet at the moment, but I'd love to see it pick up again soon! I'm in Henley Brook and would like to find some people with vaccinated, healthy pooches to socialise my boy with!

Ranger00
No problem, my boy is still only 5 weeks (tomorrow), so it'll be another month at least before he's ready for a playdate! :)
mirawee
Welcome Ranger00 :) I look forward to seeing photos of your new boy :) It has been quiet on here lately. Guest RosieFT
eek, just had a scare. Walking along footpath and my kids were lagging behind so I stopped with Rosie and waited for them to catch up. Next minute I see a flash of black (brindle) and people calling a dog. look up to see a black dog of staffordshire type running at her, it had slipped out the door of the house. It sniffed Rosie, all the while the owners standing at door trying to call it back. Rosie just stood there, stock still. Then it just went for her. Such a horrible noise coming out of it. Without even thinking I stomped my foot, yelled in a deep voice, "oi F&*& off!", and whipped it once with the leash . Luckily i had a lot of slack in the leash and it was one of those long, slip rope ones - thanks CleanRun! . The dog immediately stopped and ran into road, then owner came and grabbed it. I immediately started apologising for swearing, not my usual choice of vocab. I look up and mother and son at door also watching. Said sorry again for swearing. The look on mothers face!! If looks could kill. I realised then, it was probably less the swearing and more the fact that i had whipped their dog! oops. They did not say ONE word. Not one. Should I have tried to stop dog without using the leash? It was automatic. Stomp, deep yell, thwack. All before dog got its teeth into her. Adrenalin pumping. It was quite scary. Big, black muscled dog of bull breed persuasion, with no collar just suddenly sounding like Chewbacca on speed laying into Rosie.
RubyStar
No way, you did the right thing! I wouldn't feel bad, it was attacking poor Rosie. I'd also be calling the rangers! They should be apologising to you. And this is why I, and many others, are too afraid to walk our dogs. And some think we are overreacting by being afraid of this type of thing happening Hope Rosie is ok? Hugs to ya, I know that feeling!!
