While they may need to take more shots those extras wouldn't be over $400 worth of films! The biggest expense in xrays is usually the anaesthetic.

Hopefully you get to the bottom of it soon. If you can go to a specialist clinic that would be best in my opinion.

Out of interest what did they say when you "complained" about not being told of the extra consult charge? Even that is ridiculous in my opinion as we have long consults for the horses that don't cost that much!

Of course we usually have to pay travel on top ++ expensive meds

Ness, brilliant news about Kenz!

Thanks CC - she was back at the specialist today to have stitches out and a check up to see how all was going. All good news - the patella is still 100% stable, the incision looks good and he was happy with how she was using the leg at this stage . Next appointment is in 6 weeks time.

I missed this earlier, sorry! That is great news! thumbsup1.gif

Hmmm good news about Kenz - the DEVASTATING news is he wants her strictly rested until she goes back to see him. Only on-lead out to toilet otherwise crated/confined and not allowed to walk anywhere.

I was hoping she could at least start with short leash walks in another couple of weeks. He initially told me 4 weeks rest and then gradual reintroduction to activity. She has already done 2 weeks :(. The only small savoring grace is I emailed him last night just to double check and he has said bring her back in 4 weeks instead of 6.

Mirrawee - she said 'thank you for that feedback. I will pass it onto her, we always appreciate feedback".

I thought maybe they doubled the fee because I mentioned that she had had conjunctivitis the past few days that appeared to be clearing up. She gave the eye a quick look. Then at the end asked if i was happy with it, or if i wanted meds. I took the Ab's as didn't want to have to come back, but don't think i will need them. BUT she never looked closely at the eye, nor put the yellow fluro stuff in it to check for scratches so i don't see how that would warrant extra $$$ ??

Well it wasn't double, i think normal consult fees are now $60 there...

RosieFT i hope you sort it all out soon with a vet or your current one. 1000 is rediculous...

good feedback has been given about the vet in Canning Vale also - i have forgotten the name of it now but i think showdog and Amypie have been there.

I like all creatures great and small - but if I have a non-standard issue to discuss, I try to get Steve (also Toby, but he has moved on,drat it.) as he and toby were the best at tracking down causes of weird symptoms.

They take good notes too, and I do know that all cases get discussed daily. Not, however, the cheapest vet around.

The reason I myself don't use Applecross is that they hardly refer people for ortho problems to ortho surgeons and IMO specialists are specialists for a reason. Masons brothers family also recently had a issue there ( it's since Stevd started teaching more or something).

Greg at Subiaco Vet Hospital is brilliant. My mum has been going to him ever since she came to Perth and he's never let her down. When we had to put our Swedish Vallhund down he was so compassionate and understanding. And now, we are doing lots of tests with our elderly foster and he is so lovely to her, he really cares about the animals. There is one female vet working there who is an idiot though, I can't remember her name, but everyone else (vet nurses included) are lovely.

Thank you for the info Mim :-). Subiaco is relatively close to my parents so i will let them know as well .

Busy, busy day for me!

Son's birthday, then job interview - eek!- first one in a looooong time., now home making icecream cake and royal icing transfer of R2 D2 for his star wars cake for his party on sunday.. ugh..

anyhoo, i digress, just wanted to say that i got a call from my vet nurse and she said that she found it hard to believe and asked them twice, but Rivergum has quoted an initial consult of $145 and then a quote for xrays of $350 - 400.

She couldn't believe it.

I am very pleased with the extra effort they have gone to for me by following it up. but still...??..

LOL... I bet she couldn't believe that the specialist clinic charges half what they do  I have to admit though that I don't understand WHY they are following up in that way with Rivergum. Shouldn't they just be giving you a referral and passing on relevant information?

Good luck at your job interview though :D

MG, yay for Gibbs! Hopefully he keeps on as he is going :)

Been there done that, bought the tshirt... interview i mean :-) .. luckily was first thing this morning so i didn't get to dwell :-)

They will fax a referral through for me if i got ahead and book appointment with Rivergum. I told them I wanted to check with Rivergum before making a decision and they offered to find out and let me know so i could decide between them and Rivergum. They were always very encouraging for me to follow whichever option I decided and were not at all phased by me asking about specialist.

So really it was $95 consult to get a referral for a $145 consult LOL

Have to decide now.. hmmmm...

That sounds much more reasonable RosieFT. Thats what I have been charged for a consult at both the specialists here as well. Although since we are somewhat regularly clients we only get charged the repeat visit fee these days .

I agree go ahead with the consult and at least see what the situation is. Kenz's specialist actually said if she had been a couch potato type of dog then you probably wouldn't do anything over either the shoulder or even the patella at this stage. Only because we want to get back to trialling did he strongly recommend surgery.

Coldest May morning in a long time - no wonder I had to put my electric blanket back on around 5am as I was so bbbrrrrrrr!!! Then put the gas heater on when I got up :o Dogs weren't impressed when I had to turn it off, but they loved it while it was on!

For those not on my facebook, thought I would share this little gem here too. Ruby goes to the vet every Friday for a few hours for her bee/wasp allergy desensitization jabs. I picked her up this arvo and the vet nurse brings her out the office way, not the usual consult rooms/surgery way. She informs me that Ruby has been sleeping under her desk after she was done getting her shots laugh.gif No kennels for Princess Ruby - talk about spoiled!!! rofl1.gif Nice to know they're giving her personalised care thumbsup1.gif
