Thats what i thought. I said i thought it would be around $400, and she said you would not get it for that these days.

hmmmm

Also got charged for extended consult. Admittedly i was there for awhile, but i even said thanks for taking so much time on this, and she said 'it is ok, we don't have much on this morning.'

I would not have requested the longer consult. I just thought she was being chatty. hmmmMMM

:mad

Do you mind me asking which vet this is? Doesn't sound like a vet I'd like to return to (and it's probably the one I have reluctantly had to return to as they pull similar dodgy stunts, too!)

Won't name names, hmm better not.. . been going there since Rosie was a puppy.

They quote 209 for anaesthetic.. on a 7.9kg dog? does this sound right?

they have to xray relaxed and flexed.

Think i may need a new vet!

 RosieFT - I am starting to think the same. Next time I am going a goldfish .

Kenz's were done at the specialist here and not that expensive and the second quote I posted in the other thread was the quote given by the second specialist who ended up doing her patella surgery.

Indy had all her legs and chest x-rayed recently - I think it was about $160 in total. She didn't need sedating as she is bomb-proof and floppy ;-) I know she's a cat, but a small dog wouldn't be much bigger.

Good luck with Rosie, hope you get a diganosis soon.

hmm just remembered she said these are 'digital xray images'.. if they don't see anything obvious they send them to a radiologist who can manipulate the images.

Would these be different to yours?

Thanks CC - she was back at the specialist today to have stitches out and a check up to see how all was going. All good news - the patella is still 100% stable, the incision looks good and he was happy with how she was using the leg at this stage . Next appointment is in 6 weeks time.

Excellent news Ness! So glad to hear :) There was another Winpara owner at our last herding trial on Sunday, it made me think of poor little Kenz :)

Digital doesn't make any difference .If i was to guess i would say your talking about Vetwest .

That price is over the top & add the fact it isn't someone who is a specialist in that field either.

hmmm wow, well how did they get this price then?

showdog - no not vet west. It is a vet along high road in the riverton area. There are two that fit this, so no names :-) . The other one near me completely misdiagnosed my parents Bichon years ago whilst I was looking after her. They thought she had epilepsy, she had a major heart problem, amongst other things, and the stress was making her fit. They got it completely wrong, two visits, medication and very rude reception staff. It took a vet at a different practice to get it right, and she had to be put to sleep within days of correct diagnosis. Very sad.

If anyone would be kind enough to PM me with a GOOD vet, please do so :-)

This vet is supposed to be getting a quote from Rivergum and getting back to me. Still waiting. I will ring Rivergum myself otherwise.

Just rang another vet. Mentioned on here many times as a great vet, Applecross. Not digital, std xrays. $370.

That includes the consultation before hand and all drugs.

!!!?!?!?

Should have saved my $95 extended consult fees.

I think you should give your current vet the flick RFT and name them laugh.gif Rob people blindly because a lot of people don't think to shop around, and you will and should lose your customers! Sheesh. $1000 is daylight robbery.

They rang to say they have to ring Rivergum tomorrow as person on desk today does not know fees. So i give them kudos for customer service, and i appreciate the effort they are going to.

I did point out on the phone that although I appreciate it was a long consult, at no point was I told that it was going to be charged as an extended consult and i would have liked to be told. Especially since i did say to the vet 'thanks for taking so much time with her'.

Anyway, just rang Murdoch. Depending on how many shots would be needed, around $600. Now Murdoch is known for higher prices.

I don' t know, maybe I am misrepresenting the problem. Maybe they need to take many more shots?

Why would they need to take any more than other vet surgeries? I'd go with Applecross. Good price, and they are knowledgeable.

But of course I've only seen them the once... others of course would have their own opinions :)
