The 3 of them are laying in a row by the heater at the moment She knows what this training thing is all about too, her lungs told me so this afternoon! I have never really had to challenge the vets i use with anything serious to judge their capabilities, and each time i go i seem to see a different vet, or a locum. How can you tell until something is really wrong? These vets are all polite and helpful with the question i have, but i could not even give you a name of a person as i never see the same one. ?? I know Applecross is good but more $ than most - is that right? Some of you use Ranford - have you had difficult things assessed or just run of the mill stuff? and yes, Bluegum but i would need a referral first and if it is something easily diagnosed.. .. Mason_Gibbs Posted May 20, 2012 Share Posted May 20, 2012 (edited) I would just ask for a Referral to Rivergum, it could cost you more at a regular vet coz they could take longer to find the issue. Been through similar with Gibbs and I'm sorry I never saw the ortho specialist sooner as there would have been less damage. Can't recommend Tom Hill highly enough. ETA Applecross isn't bad with prices but Steve who is ther really good vet with lameness etc I hear is taking a backseat he is doing more teaching I believe. Mason_Gibbs Posted May 20, 2012 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Gibbs gave us a scare today, hubby was walking him around before Masons retrieving test and he said Gibbs suddenly did a funny jump and then suddenly did diarrhoa and threw up and went all ethargic. I checked his gums and very pale so off to PVE. By this stage I was thinking snake bite or maybe intestinal blockage. Turns out he had been stung by a bee on his paw and he had a bad reaction. The specialist works out the same price for X-rays etc I paid $400 for anaesthetic and X-rays at my local vet, Rivergum charged me the same. Rosie would be less coz of her size. We pick a clinic where the vet prefer is always available unless on holidays etc etc. WE don't use Applecross like we use to,to many staff changes but they offer services that we need so we do keep our foot in that door but use one of Applecross past vets at his own clinic Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ruby is halfway through her 19 weeks course. After that, she moves to monthly injections that I do at home. Can't wait to not have to drive to the vet twice on a Friday! And I'm sure she will be glad to not have to go anymore. She starts looking a bit sad at me when they lead her off out the back! I don't think she'll ever be "immune" but it should hopefully make her reactions less severe. If I can just give her AH's if she gets stung and is all good, then that's a win for me! Glad Gibbs is ok :) I was doing some training in the backyard this evening and Ruby dropped her ball by my feet on the pavement. I looked down to see a bee crawling on the pavement right next to the ball Screamed at Ruby to leave it as she went to pick the ball back up, then I stomped the living daylights out of the bugger. Checked her mouth and I didn't see a stinger and she didn't react like she was stung, so I think it missed her, but I gave her a couple of AH's just to be sure. I want a dog that has lots of get up and go. My two girls just don't have enough of that for me. Training becomes a chore when they don't jump around wanting more. Maybe they are thinking they want a handler with more get up and go!! If anyone can help me solve my problem of Millie jumping throughout my car (from the back to the back seats and front seats) I am all ears! I am really getting fed up with it. I can't get a cargo barrier professionally installed because I have airbags in the back which prevents a cargo barrier being legally installed. I'm not sure how to rig up a cargo net either. Would like to get out of it a bit cheaper than that, though Already spent heaps on getting the back crates custom fitted to the car. It just unfortunately doesn't solve the seat jumping issue. Millie got a pass at the RATG today. Her deliveries are shot at the moment, though. Everything else was good. Ruby was a little cow in her retrieves.
