RubyStar
Im nervous for the RATG hope it goes ok Well I haven't heard from DogsWest RE my Associate Gundog application so I am guessing that means Millie has to run as NFC Ruby and I have just come home from her first desensitization jab. They said she didn't have a reaction and was all good Good start :) As I was waiting, some people came out with their male yellow Lab with a shaved patch on his side and LOADS of red dots. I had a chat to them about what he was tested for and he is basically allergic to everything, including cockroaches! Poor bugger. As I was chatting, they brought Ruby out, they were like two peas in a pod. Same breed, same colour, same shaved patch and bandages on their leg Must have been Labs day out as just before this, people walked out with their black Lab in a cast on his front leg. He had been hit by a car But he was all good so happy ending! Edited March 23, 2012 by RubyStar
Dogsfevr
Can anyone explain this contest of winners? Are the dogs present? Not that I want to go, you just have me intrigued as to what it is! Thanks :) The top 4 dogs from each group are invited to compete. If any of those don't accept they go down to # 5/6 in that group. Once all the invites have been sorted by the required date 4 more dogs from all the groups placed 5/6 are drawn from to pick the first 4 to receive invites & again if they don't accept they will go down the list in order . This means 32 dogs will compete with no byes To qualify it is based on BIS group clubs & big/RUIG at All Breeds show with an entry over 250. It is a knock out round event ,2 dogs competing against each other until the over all winner is selected . It is a dress up event

Mason_Gibbs
Judge will say halt your dog must just sit auto when u stop. No you won't be allowed to touch the ground as a drop signal. Do yourself a favor and go watch an obedience trial it's harder than it sounds :) no you don't have to belong to a club. For a stand you can say stand - 1 word only. I am currently teaching Pippa to drop and what started as me bending a bit, didn't take long to fade and now her drop signal is me standing upright. Remember, this is a little dog, so having a higher signal for a rotti won't be hard :D Speaking of obedience, I have Millie going cheap if anyone wants her! She blew her score of 195 in Open (and first place I think??) because she dropped in her sit stay! Again! Looks like I actually need to do some training afterall  I've been rather slack
RubyStar
Just checked emails and have been given the great news that Millie's associate gundog application has been approved and she's now eligible to compete in the RATG!! I do find it odd though that even after being assessed with photos and deemed a purebred Lab, they still can't/won't put her breed down on catalogues. Her breed is still just recognized as Associate. For obedience and agility entries I put down Lab as the breed, most clubs print it but others still insist on only writing Associate! Having the breed helps stewards find the right dog! She's the only associate entered on Sunday, so we need to spread the word that non-papered gundogs can take part, too :) Edited March 23, 2012 by RubyStar

RS she will drop on command if i point down so will just have to do some proofing with her. Then i might join you ladies in the obedience world :S Maybe i'll get bedazzled or ptolomy to teach them lol :D
Ptolomy
Think Ptolomy is going to have her work cut out with her new little girl who doesn't speak any English - well other than sit and come which are the same in both English and Norwegian. Having said this - Chica is a sweetie - nothing phases her, the vacuum cleaner, dogs barking, meeting my 7 kids, going in the crate and for a dog who has only been fed dry food - she has licked her bowl clean and seems to be enjoying her change to raw food. She is a typical nosey toller and she has fitted in so well - couldn't ask for more than that

Mason_Gibbs
Have you ever trained a dog for competition Prolomy or did you get all your other kids from pups?
Ptolomy
I have got all my kids from pups - so training has started at 8 weeks of age - all except Strauss who didn't didn't escape from quarantine until 17 weeks. If I only had 1 or 2 dogs then I think it could be done because I would have the time to spend with her, but working full time makes it a bit more difficult. Rally might be a possibility, but at this stage I will be happy to take her on outings and let her settle in. Actually I noticed yesterday that she didn't like being brushed and I had already been warned that she didn't like her feet been trimmed and toenails being cut - so maybe some life skills to begin with. Mason_Gibbs
Lol. I think it is a bit harder with an adult, both mine learned to learn so they catch on but i can imagine how different it is with an adult. How old os Chika?
