Mason_Gibbs
Actually show people do complain about performance people at times ;) MG, noone from the performance side if things made any effort to get sponsorship as far as I am aware. Why wouldn't a show person look for sponsorship for the show side of things too? How about next year a performance person volunteers to get the several hundred prizes the performance dogs require so that they get "decent" prizes ;) Sigh..... None of us are competing for the prizes we are doing it because we love and enjoy it but it still makes me sad that the performance people and show people get different stuff. And yes I know having the Betsy dog out of 1000's is hard but IMO what performance people do with their dogs is harder. To me to even get to trialling level should entitle you to a prize lol. PS if I come across as a cow this week just ignore me... It's one of those years for me.. Just bad news all round with me and Gibbs health wise. mirawee
If performance people aren't interested in the prize why bitch about what is on offer :shrugs: In showing you have an ultimate winner... Who is the ultimate winner in performance? Which class do you choose to get the big haul? As far as I am aware performance is getting prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each height - as long as the show person has managed to get it and she has tried pretty hard. In showing BOB gets a bottle of wine and there is nothing for any other breed level prizes, just class in group and in show awards. I posted coz I was impressed at what someone has managed to achieve after years of pretty average prizes (or none...) Instead all I hear is bitching coz showing gets preference! Why did none of the agility and obedience people go looking for sponsorship? As pointed out, they managed to get it for the obedience challenge when they weren't relying in the show people to give them "handouts". The same happened at the Royal last year... pie
Yep I agree Mirawee - and the fact that they got sponsorship for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all heights and classes for agility is quite a feat - that's a lot of prizes!! There was a call on FB for help with sponsorship. Of course BIS deserves a massive prize - it's a pretty awesome achievement!

bedazzledx2
I agree mirawee...Penny has done an awesome job and we should be happy with what we get. I remember last year (or was that the year before?) we were going to fundraise and organise better prizes but I think the priority of actually getting the performance events to actually be run kinda took over as that was in jeopardy. I organized vouchers for every competitor at last years Challenge but the participating numbers were still disappointing. I do wish WA would do what is the norm at most big events in the East and have a Winner of Winners. That would be where the highest awards and prizes would go in performance just the same as BIS. We have that at the State trial but no other trials. We don't even acknowledge a High in Trial here. The Royal? That has never had great prises for performance other than Sponsership and we were told that we are not permitted to organise sponsership due to conflicts. Believe me people tried and had good stuff lined up and were told its a no go, so in that regard we basically get what we are given....for the Royal....not much!!!!! Gone are the days of sponsers umbrellas and big bags of dog bickies!

pie
I considered asking my boss for sponsorship, but in order for him to sponsor people he has to be getting some advertising - and let's face it us dog people are too busy spending our money on dogs to be interested in buying investment properties
RallyValley
Yes I would too live too see a Winner of Winners at the Classic and for them to get a massive prize haul :) Is there any way they could do that for agility? Like Highest Masters Dog Overall?
pie
I don't think it's possible now that it is all run in separate heights?

RubyStar
, I seen to remember last years obedience challenge had a pretty good haul. I think Ptolomy/bedazzled organized the lovely photo frames and I for one thought it was great! I'm still too slack to get a photo CC took of Millie for me and her ribbon to put on the frame. Oops! Livertreats
I agree the lady has done a fabulous job at getting all the prizes, and yes her being a showing person I can imagine her first priority is showing, however she has not forgotten the other dog sports and has organised prizes for them as well, not easy when 100+ are needed for just the agility/jumping. I have been involved in all aspects, but I get a little tired of hearing complaints from the non showing side of things. If people dont like what they are given, then why not get off their backsides and help? Western Classic committee are always looking for people to help, isnt it about time people started putting back a little into the sport they love and not only for the Western Classic either, some of the clubs struggle but how often do you see people give up doing things with their dogs to help out, not very often, always left to the same willing helpers. I have been on the WC committee and dont tell me that Dogs West make heaps of money from the agility etc, they dont. So why not put your hands up and start working NOW on making 2013 Western Classic a wonderful event.
Wazzat Xolo
Wow that's an impressive haul!! Reminds me a bit of those big American award shows where the celebs who present walk away with a massive haul, so massive it is quite ridiculous  Does all that really need to go to 2 winners? Think I'd rather see it shared around between the class in show winners and such! Well done though to those who organised the prizes, they certainly did a good job!! :) I hope performance get better than the mugs this year  I highly doubt I am going to win anything this year.... Wait .... Or next lol Dont worry MG I am with you are no doubt many, but I must say I appreciate the great dogs that win and the hard work that goes into it all, I am partial to a different person and dog getting the awards sometimes, BUT my favourite has to be when the dog gets all excited1!! mirawee
WX, your dogs have been doing so badly lately I doubt they have a chance at the Classic... Although you would be like me, while you are enjoying your dogs' success at the moment the judges aren't exactly from countries that have a lot to do with our breeds :) Bedazzled, I was told something different by a couple of Royal Show committee members. Although I can vaguely remember them saying that a food company was approached but it was a different one to a current sponsor. I am sure there just must have been a miscommunication as I know DWD got their own sponsorship :)
bedazzledx2
Please note.... one complaint by one person... and suddenly we are all being tarred with the same brush! Every other comment was in praise of the person organising prizes. That gets a little tiresome. BTW I have put up my hand to steward Sunday and Monday. bedazzledx2
No, sorry Candice but one comment seems to generate the "You performance people are always complaining" response and I've heard it too many times over the years! Not aimed at you personally.

Sheesh all i asked was what the prices are etc and why the performance side didnt get the same thats all. no sorry Candice not aim at you, or is it aimed at everyone involved the the performance sports, but have heard the complains for a few years about the prizes and that was from some of the performance sports people. If we dont like them why not do something about it is what I am saying. And good on you bedazzledz2 for putting your hand up, I am stewarding on Thursday night, if we all did a bit, then it is not left up to the same people, share it around is all I am saying. mirawee
Sorry Bedazzled, I read more than 1 person asking why the show mob got so much in the way of prizes and why doesn't performance get more - but then that is the problem with the written word coz that isn't necessarily what was meant ;) Candice, it certainly wasn't only you - and I can't say I picked on you just explained what happened with sponsorship and that I was sure the person who did all of this would love help for next year :) As you know I do both... personally if I managed to win Masters agility/jumping I will be more than happy just to have a rosette as proof :D And I have to admit it is the same for if I ever won BIS Not that I will probably get to keep it given most of the dogs I handle are owned by other people  I certainly am in the same boat as every other performance person but I don't get why people are complaining before they even see what is being offered. The year the performace mob was whinging about getting coffee mugs (or whatever they were - I didn't manage to win one so don't know  ) I have to admit I was sitting there thinking my dog won BOB and I got sweet bugger all yet apparently I got some massive prize! Maybe it was invisible :p And when I told people that I was basically told that I was lying because showing always gets the better prizes. The show mob do seem more inclined to not just automatically assume they are getting the raw end of the deal ;) And many do admit that agility/obedience is overlooked. But then how many agility/obedience people bother going on any of the committees? And no- I am not talking specifically about DOL folk, I read WAclick but rarely post as I don't always like how people answer each other on there ;) Rant over
