CrazyCresties
Yay and it means spaces in the car park, so I don't have to move my car every 2 hours or the traffic warden gets me! Well done your kids Rosie
RallyValley
Well done on your kids Rosie FT! And don't worry about the rejection letter, I got one the other day, had a chat with some of the higher ups at work and found out that even the person acting in the role did not get the position! OH did biotech BSC, honours, phd, post doc over seas.. and still struggles to get funding with grant writing etc. At least now he is in research AND academia so some security. I wish i had done speech pathology... but i wanted to be a vet my whole life so could only think of that.. didn't get into vet (obviously) so did biotech so i could develop vaccines to help animals.. umm, yeah right... 2yrs to do speech path ontop of my degree... can't do it with kids.. ahh well.. have a happy life and a wonderful family so don't really mind :-) my SIL did science, phd, and is now 2/3 way through medical degree. my sister did archaeology and arthropology combined degree... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
RallyValley
I got exactly halfway through a Biotech degree... deferred a bit... found out that the graduates were not finding jobs/being paid less then my public sector job.. so went scratch that and am now a fully fledged Government employee Although I am able to get some funding towards a degree in Management/HR from work and Curtin does do online degrees in those areas... I can't help myself, Uni keeps calling to me! I would never go back full time though or give up any of my work.
RubyStar
Rally, all the more reason to come and be my new house mate I am hoping to do Curtin next year while I work (probably online/external). Could use a study kick up the bum and a dog training time out reminder :p Gosh I wish I could quit work and be a full time student for a little while! Guest RosieFT
hee i got a little way into my degree and decided i would never ever work in a lab. I would get a job as a patent lawyer or science mag writer or editor of papers... yeah right... worked in labs LOL.. and my first job paid SO little!! At least now they seem to get a decent salary.. comparatively anyway! I was always obsessed and passionate about my horses and competing so it was just a job for me. A fun job, with lots of chatting and interesting work, but i left it at the door when i left to go ride. Now i have kids, part time science just doesn't work and i have been away from it for toooooo long. Raising my kids is the most important job i could ever have. :-) .. i think of all those hours, all those experiments that answered exactly zero questions... LOL ahh those were the days, playing with radiation, viruses, chemicals other peoples' placentas....

Not in any hurry to move out now that I will have an agility dog again (well once Zora is 12 months)! Love having the room to set up full sized agility courses in the yard too much to leave. IF I do end up doing study again It probably won't be till next year, I would like to Ch title Zora first.
Mason_Gibbs
I want or go back and study to be a vet, need to do a chemistry module and some others before they will consider me, looking into doing it in 2013 when I become a citizen Edited December 13, 2011 by Mason_Gibbs
SparkyTansy
My friend went back to Uni after completing a teaching degree to become a vet. She did a year of something (I can't remember what!) and then got into vet. She's entering her final year in 2012. She told me it's a very hard slog, full time study for five years, very little opportunity to work due to demanding study and exams, and she hates being so poor! Be very sure you want to do Vet before you start down the path MG She doesnt' regret it, but she did say it ruins your life for 5 years!

suziwong66
I want or go back and study to be a vet, need to do a chemistry module and some others before they will consider me, looking into doing it in 2013 when I become a citizen Can i suggest to make your goal more attainable that you consider doing a diploma of education studies or other appropriate bridging course at the uni level to equip you with the necessary skills at uni? I'm suggesting this because the vast majority of mature aged students who drop out (usually in the first semester) do so because they don't have the necessary skills to succeed in an undergrad degree eg writing, critical thinking etc I did one before i went to uni and it made uni life a breeze because i was academically prepared. In contrast many of my mature aged peers really struggled in the first year and a number dropped out. I had done TAFE Cert iv and diplomas (in business & administration) before, but uni was a whole different kettle of fish in terms of academia; it's much more cognitive in nature where as TAFE was more practical in nature. Good luck; i hope you achieve your goal.

mirawee
Also be aware that unless you own your own clinic vets in WA get paid poorly and work crap hours. I wanted to be a vet but am so glad I didn't because I am paid a a huge amount more in my current job and have regular hours with good flexibility :-) Although I do wish I had access to drugs as I would if I was a vet as half the time I get one out It is purely to get the appropriate drugs (for the animals not me )
