RubyStar
Why, what other plans do you have in June? Another trip to Europe? :p
pie
I'll be in Sydney until the 18th, guess it will depend on if she would still be able to do it with a week off being biked. I'll go look at the fitness schedule thing to see what they do in the second last week bike wise
RubyStar
Or you could look up when NSW have theirs and if it coincides, enter her over there?
pie
Nah I've only got the one free day, and it's a Tuesday. Think it would be too much to ask of her anyway. Plus no bike etc Dunno

I'll go look at the fitness schedule thing to see what they do in the second last week bike wise I'd say she'll be absolutely fine - the bulk of your training and conditioning is done earlier on and over a long period. I'm pretty sure rory only got one ride each of the last couple of weeks.

Yeah I think if she is ready for it before I leave, then I'll just pick it up again in the last week, it's not like she will be sedentary in Sydney anyway. The schedule reckons they do 12km bike a day with a longer ride once a week, but they are woossy GSDs :p .
Tassie
Good grief - most people I know wouldn't do more than 6 or 8 km in one training ride - and then only two or three times a week. I gradually build up distance over a few weeks - and speed, and then vary the speed and the distance, on the basis that the test itself isn't 20km in one hit - it's 8, 6 and 6, with breaks in between. I ended up having trained quite a bit at about 12-13 kph, just in case (sometimes judges will take the first leg out a bit faster and bank a bit of time in case of accidents.) As it happened, in Rory's test it was pretty much 10 kh the whole way - a bit uncomfortably slow
mirawee
ST, hopefully Ari is feeling better soon RosieFT, good to hear you weren't imaginging things - hopefully she is all better soon as well! In terms of ET... Non-GSD can do the ET in September. In fact I think even the test that they do is open to other breeds ;)
RubyStar
in Rory's test it was pretty much 10 kh the whole way - a bit uncomfortably slow In the very small amount of biking my girls have done, I haven't taken them over 6-7km/hr... I need to build them up to that!! We've done 2-3km's at that speed at that's it. I'm so slack!

In fact I think even the test that they do is open to other breeds ;) I asked about this earlier in the year and noone could give me a definitive answer, and alluded to the fact it was only for GSD's. Sure, I didn't actually phone the organizer to find out first hand, but still :p I hope it's open to all breeds, then I can maybe do the other dog later on. Though very doubtful I will make it to one as my previous attempts at training for it have all been failures!
SparkyTansy
cos i'm slack... are there any rules for the ET about collar requirements? is it flat collar only?
Tassie
I use a harness for mine ST - prefer to have what pulling there might be more evenly distributed. they use their tracking harnesses - doesn't seem to confuse them. Here ya go The dog must wear a fixed collar or suitable harness. No neck chains, slip collars, spiked collars, muzzles or head control collars shall be permitted. mirawee
I still don't even have a bike for it! Fingers crossed I can do it with Banjo next year though :p Abbey got her ET title from the September event a few years ago

Mason_Gibbs
Hope Ari is ok ST big hugs for her and pls post back and let us know what's happening I won't do ET with either of mine, even of I could physically do it myself i think it's just too taxing on the body for large breed dogs but that's just my opinion... SparkyTansy
I'd like to do the ET with Ari, but need a bike. At one point I managed to convince my OH to take her, but it's all fallen by the wayside now!! Lulu is too young of course.
