joelle
Happy birthday Bear Oookay, Im after some advice please. My lovely Nell who I brought home 2 weeks ago, has remained really quiet. I thought she would have come out of her shell, but she is taking her time! She is now 11 weeks old. She is really timid and sometimes aloof. The more worrying part is that sometimnes she has growled at us (aggressively - not playfully)SHe seems scared of us sometimes so I think the growling is a fear reaction. The thing is, I cant recall her being spoooked? SHe has no reason to be scared. SOmetimes, like just now, she seems to want to play with me, others, she runs and hides unless I have food in my hand. I really need to bring this pup out of this situation, but Ive never seen a pup so young be scared. Obviously she has her reasons but she cant tell me. Ive hand fed her some meals to build the bond and that seems to be working (slowly)We have started puppy school and the trainer has given advice about just taking it really slow and gentle with her. SHes quite good at touch target, sit drop etc in short training sessions. Is there anything else anyone can recommend? Any other bonding games? SHe is really good with our other dog Fly and I wonder if she has bonded to him more than us? We give her one on one but she still seems to prefer Fly. I need games that reaffirm the humans as the good guys! Ive contacted the breeder and left a message so hopefully she will get back to me ASAP. Any ideas please? ETA sorry, Nell is a Jack Russell Terrier. Edited August 29, 2011 by joelle
SparkyTansy
sorry I've missed a fair bit over the weekend... but... Ptolomy so sorry you have had a lousy time of it lately. I hope things get better soon. CC I hope that Indy is off her ABs soon and much better - and ew... RAT!! Go Louis!! Poo-Fong So excited for you and little Jerry! Lulu can't wait to meet him! JT wanted me to tell you that his name clearly rocks :p MAS OMG GIBBS IS ADORABLE!!! Lulu can't wait to meet him Lab puppies are incredibly adorable. :cheer: BEAR!!! :cheer: RosieFT it's definitely a girl pee thing... i have little patches all over my grass from the girls... always have. it doesn't happen with the boys so much as they lift their legs. it is maybe the ammonia or something, that kills the grass. anyway, try adding some ACV to their water and/or food. RV i agree with everyone else - you definitely deserve what you got in Zora - she's such a lovely, happy puppy. lulu loves her and they play so well together. I felt the same way as you when I got James after having Spartan
bedazzledx2
I would not muck about at this stage. She is young enough for you to be able to make a difference and your instincts are spot on. My recommendation would be to contact Kathy who is very good with behavioural issues. http://www.kathysdogtraining.com.au/ Happy birthday Bear Oookay, Im after some advice please. pie
That doesn't sound normal for a JRT, they are usually such outgoing little things. Poor little Nell. I agree with Bedazzled - speaking from experience with a nervous broken terrier, I wish I had seen the signs when he was a pup and sought help. Happy birthday Bear, that year has gone fast indeed Hey didn't I see Gibbs on TV last night in a toilet paper commercial He is too cute and squishy. RosieFT - you can get dog rocks from the pet shop which you put in the water bowl which stop the lawn burning. I wouldn't know if it was a girl thing, since we don't have lawn! The pee doesn't seem to kill the weeds though, unfortunately

CrazyCresties
Awwwww Happy Birthday Bear I can't believe it's been a whole year Look at him trying to open his pressies Go Louis you little hunter one less very nasty rodent to try to get in the house and freak everyone out - ewww germy ratties Indy was staring at a bush this morning, but she often tries to hunt lizards (never successfully ) so I didn't pay much attention untill Louis started sniffing aroung too. Before I knew it this rat bolted out with Louis in hot pursuit! I've never seen him like it, he was like an experienced JR terrier on a rat and shook it for all his life! It just shows the instinct is never buried very far. I was more worried about him getting bitten, and it looks like he got a nip to his upper lip, so I'll watch him for any signs of infection. My brave little boy :D I think we'll stop putting grain down for the doves now Joelle contact Kathy or PM Zayder Asher on here she is also really good. PM me if you cant find her on here i have her email on my computer Yup I can vouch for Kathy and 'Zayder' I'd recommend them any time :D Good luck with her Joelle, hope she comes out of her shell soon
ncarter
Happy Birthday Bear. What a cute stafford. Hey does anyone know where you can buy black hawk food in WA? Its not really worthwhile if i get it send over from east as I only buy 3kg at a time. I might try zoo products in Claremont, they have a great range of food for a small shop. And does anyone know where i can buy nice natural looking pigsears, ones that look like pigs ears not a bit of plastic like the ones at cityfarmers? pie
You can get black hawk from Wendy in Southern River, I believe Belgian.Blue/English.Ivy has had it couriered north before if that is easier for you. Think I read that it was about $5 or $10 dollars?

RubyStar
Back on vaccination talk again - sorry! If a pup is vaccinated at 5 weeks, 8 weeks, and again at 11-12 weeks, is that the 3 done and dusted or the 16 week one still applies for those who still wish to get it? I was just reading the breeder's forum and some breeders are saying they first vaccinate at 7-8 weeks of age then again at 12. So I'm wondering seeing that Pippa was vacc'd at 5 weeks and 8 weeks prior to her flight over, does she get her 11-12 week one and that should/can be it? Because the vet is recommending my mum get the 16 week one (like they do) but I wonder if she needs it because her 12 week vacc will be her third. The vacc history said next one due at 11 weeks, but mum is getting it done at 12 weeks due to vet booking it in for 12 weeks. Regardless of her getting the 16 week one or not, can she start to come out and about 10 days after her 12 week one? Edit: 5 weeks seems awfully young, I wonder if it actually did her any good to get one that young? Seems like there would be no benefit Edited August 29, 2011 by RubyStar
Mason_Gibbs
Yup im also confused about vacs. My pup got one at 6 weeks, then my vet said one at 12 and then 16 week booster. Not every1 does the 16 week one. Breeders say a week after the 12 week one they can go out in public ( my vet says only after the 16 week one) but that is too long to wait to socialise etc imo. ETA 5 weeks is way to early imo Edited August 29, 2011 by Mason2009
ncarter
That seems over the top giving the pup 2 vaccinations by 8 weeks putting the immune system under stress and then sending it on a long flight. Stella had a c3 at 7 weeks. I got her when she was 10 weeks, then gave her a c5 at 11 weeks. Then I wasnt sure about the 3rd, Vet said there is a bit of parvo going around, so I got another C3 done at 15 weeks
Dogsfevr
We never do the booster & we show our pups from 3 months. 5 weeks never heard of any breeder doing them that young especially on a pup so small .
mirawee
Happy birthday Bear! And belated Happy birthday Emery Can anyone tell me about the show classes at CAWA?? Why? Are you going to show your new boy? He is pretty cute The info for the show classes is on the Dogswest website under current events I think. Classes on Tuesday with Helena are probably the best ones? If a pup is vaccinated at 5 weeks, 8 weeks, and again at 11-12 weeks, is that the 3 done and dusted or the 16 week one still applies for those who still wish to get it? 5 week vaccination was a waste of time at best and a problem for the immune system at worst Even 6 weeks is too young in my opinion. 7 weeks then 12 then 16 is a better option. Although it seems really strange that they are doing them 3 weeks apart rather than 4 anyway?
