Mason_Gibbs
I am getting excited now about getting another pup, cant wait until the bitch is pregnant and then the pups are born Someone actually said to me today that I should get a girl to lessen my chances of fights... dont know how keen I am for a girl though Edited February 20, 2011 by Mason2009
boxagirl
Is Mason desexed? Or will the new on be? That will lesson the chances of fights. Alot of entire males are ok together anyway- as long as theres no bitches in season around. Having 2 bitches IMO is worse that having 2 dogs

I had 2 bitches and it was a disaster, I have heard 2 males are better but not having had 2 males together before as Mason is my first male dog I cant really speak from experience

Mason_Gibbs
Having 2 bitches IMO is worse that having 2 dogs Not sure I agree with that! I have heard the same, all breeders I have spoken to have said 2 males desexed are better than 2 desexed females but I guess it also depends on the individual dogs, Mason would never ever fight back I dont think but I would not like him to even have to think about it if possible. boxagirl
Not sure I agree with that! It depends on the breed and dog, but alot of bitches will fight to the death more, males have tiffs and get over it.. there was a thread on here awhile back. I know with the dogs I show (there are 8 dogs in the backyard, 3 entire males, 2 desexed females and 3 entire females) it is the bitches that will occasionally cause the serious problems requiring vet treatment- the males do get into small scraps over food/attention every now and then, but nothing serious. I think Mason will be fine ;) OI my two girls get on fine, well for now they do lol I know You're girls seem to love everyone... (which is why you have to bring them down and give them a try at dog sledding when the season starts *hint hint* ) Edited February 20, 2011 by boxagirl

Ptolomy
I have 4 boys (1 entire) and 4 girls (1 entire). All live in the house with us and all get on and yes there are sibblings in the clan. I had one bad egg but she is no longer with us . She was great with all the red kids, but gave our cross breed hell.

I think it comes down to the dogs as individuals, i know people with 2 of each sex and most have never had a problem

ozjen
I've had different combinations over the years in terms of sexes together and squabbles came down more to the individual dogs personalities. Desexed male X entire male, fine until new two legged family member and then desexed male became overly protective of bub with regard to the other dog. One desexed male x two entire bitches pure harmony even bitches sharing pups. Desexed male x entire male and female no major issues. Two entire males X one entire bitch, bitch picked on one male and loved the other (who she ended up mating with after he was sterilized). Two entire girls X one desexed male, one girl caused issues with everyone and tried to kill desexed male. Currently one oversexed entire young male X one desexed old male X one middle aged entire bitch all living together very happily, seems to be the right blend of personalities. Just like some people are not the right personality for us to be comfortable with animals have the same issue, so its more about getting the right blend rather than the right sex. If the mix isn't right then I think it is kinder to rehome rather than force incompatable dogs to share the same home, why make everyone unhappy when all can be happy in the situation that suits them. Personally, I like all my animals (regardless of species)to get on as I would rather not have to divide up my time between then (other than for short one on one time) although minor squabbles are an accepted part of life. The current blend of personalities is close to perfect although Jo does tell Jenna to F....off on occassion when she tries to stir him up and a certain randy boy humps the cat's head every morning before playing with her.
