Odin-Genie
Please excuse my ignorance but is a elk hound a cross between a german shepherd and a samoyed. That's what I am asked all the time when I take my dogs to the dog park. Usually it's a German shepherd x husky. When I tell people that elkhounds are ancient purebreeds, people are quite surprised. ziggyboy
Hi just found this thread. Hasn't been updated for months! o_O Anyway I have reserved a male Elkhound from Graabine. I'm totally researched about the breed but the only thing I am most concerned about is this breed's tendency to bark more than the usual dog. Has this been a problem for other Elkhound owners? teddywaddy
Hi Ziggyboy, I also have a Graabine Elkhound, whilst she does bark it is only for a reason i.e she wants to go to the toilet & wants some attention, they are not a dog to be left alone in the back yard all day & night, they love to do things with their owners. it is very important to socialise them at an early age. The are very affectionate & love children, but ours hates cats!!
Catie
We have an Elkie from Norskgra, she's a territorial and play barker! She's a gorgeous girl though, very affectionate, loves our daughter and also our cat, they play chasey for hours on end, usually in the middle of the night :)
