Bellatrix
Ok, so im thinking of buying myself this for Christmas I have heard its very versatile, excellent for portraiture as well as close up. But is it good for any other type of photography, say a person a few feet away with a nice background? If you have some photos to share, please post them!! Kirislin
have a look here, all these pics are with that lens. I love it. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=166191&hl= all these are taken with the macro too. these ones are through photobucket so not as sharp, not what you normally imagine a macro for but I happened to be passing by and it was the only lens I had. Clicking Mad
cool I went the cheaper Sigma version - 105mm f/2.8 (macro) and am having the best fun with it - most of my most recent shots are with that lens and a macro shot, I don't know what I'm doing with macro but totally love playing around with it atm
Kirislin
Before you buy have a look around. This is definitely one I'd consider buying from the US. Price them here and then look online. I bought mine 2nd hand privately from the US through a photography forum and I got a good lens, but that might be too risky for you. You can get it through reputable companies like Adorama online and I am sure it will be alot cheaper than buying it from a retail shop here. I dont think you'll get slugged duty because it's under $1000.

gila
You could also go for the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro Tis a fair bit cheaper and is a very nice lens.
