Bodifying Sprays

My Jap Spitz is 9 months old and his adult coat is through now, but it needs a bit of 'oomph'.

I have been recommended Crown Royale Bodifier by a friend in my breed, however my supplier is out of stock for a couple of weeks at least. So I've ordered some Chris Christensen Thick N Thicker in the meantime. Anyone who has used either of these products... tips, thoughts, opinions?

What are you going for, a thicker coat or something to make it stand up better, ie so its more big?

Both are lovely products and I've used them when I had Sammies, however Crown Royal does not always agree with some dogs skin, so you might want to watch that. I had a number of dogs that were sensitive and broke out after using it.

A bit of both would be nice :p

But my main problem is that although the adult coat is through it is not full length yet and the back of the neck in particular tends to lie a bit flat.

Thanks heaps, I will keep an eye on that when the Crown Royale stuff arrives!

The reason I ask is that I have been having a similar issue with Mistral, around the shoulders and neck and I was given some plain ol sugar water to use and it worked really well.

Got to be careful about how much sugar you use or the coat will end up harsh and sticky (last thing you want is a judge sticking to the dog :p ) and it needs to be washed out when you get home but if you are desprate and have nothing else its worth a try.

Otherwise I hear the Chris Thick and Thicker one is great and I will be using it on my boy if and when he needs it next

My lovely friend who grooms and shows BC Rory for me uses Crown Royale on some dogs - on others it can go a bit tacky (and I'm not sure which CR - but one that's supposed to help keep the coat clean.) She also uses CC T & T - neat on the feet and legs, and diluted with water to spray on in places where she wants a bit more body.

I have used CR Bodifier in the past (when I was showing the BC's) and was very happy with it, but when I was doing show prep on the Chows we used to use Listerine & water mixed together - this tip was given to us by a professional handler from HK who showed Chows & Poms and he swore by it.

Can't for the life of me remember the dilution rate but easy (and harmless!) enough to experiment... it worked a treat for lifting coat up & out. Spray coat & brush 'against the grain' then get the dog to shake :D

And Davis Fluff Out works a treat, I would recommend that and CC T&T

Fluff out on a Jap Spitz coat can leave it feeling starchy and grippy ,I found it unsuitable.

Oh wow, We used to use it on the tzus and didnt have an issue with it changing the coat texture.

  • 4 months later...

So reviving old post, but does Crown Royale Bodifier have Alcohol in it? Something I used at the show the other day made my dogs coat yellow at the tip, the grooming spray I was using was a LL Protein Treatment mixed with water but I used the CR bodifier while blowdrying?? :)
